Lo-Bak TRAX Portable Spinal Traction Device. Does it work for you?

[ Edited ]

Watching this product on QVC now, with Lori Greiner and host Rick D.

The presenter is the chiropractor who invented this spinal traction device.

My MIL suffers from ongoing lower back pain after being in a car accident a few years ago.  And also has degenerative spinal discs.

Does this device really work?

Has this device worked for you?  She doesn’t want to have back surgery.

Thanks.

I bought it a few years ago.  I also got the device that has the nerve stimulation you put on the back of your knee.  I have lower back pain, bulging discs, arthritis etc. etc. I showed my Dr. and she laughed at the stimulation thing, and said the Lo-bak, now that's good for you!  Problem is, you gotta use it.  I think it is very good, feels good, and gives me some relief.  It's not going to make your back young again, but I think it is worth every penny.

I bought this a couple years ago for my son because he has spinal stenosis. He said it works great!

I have not used this but a very health conscious friend of mine bought it at Bed Bath Beyond and swears by it.

I think it works. I agree that just like anything else, you have to make an effort to use it to get the maximum benefit.

I'm great about being loyal to working out, eating well (most of the time) taking supplements, and skin care.  The Lo-Bak Trax.......not so much.

The Lori Grenier traction device is (at least from an RN/PT perspective) a physical reminder of an exercise from the “McKenzie Method” of exercises for lower back pain. Basically its a pelvic tilt exercise with a 10-15 second hold; that any woman can do naturally. Men might need to look it up as the anatomy s different.
I would’t waste my money on something I can do naturally. I do the exercise (among others) 3 x per day, 3 sets of 15. It takes a little over 10 min total.
In response to OP’s dr., laughing at “the calf thing”. If your talking about the “Quell” device; I use it and it has eliminated the severe sciatica pain & nerve pain down both legs. It IS NOT a “TENS” unit. It is completely different! The device blocks the messages to the brain & helps to increase production of serotonin & endorphins. No TENS unit does that. They are temporary topical electrostimulation devices. Completely different mode of therapy!
I was on narcotic pain meds multiple times per day and am off them completely now. I still have lumbar pain ~for that I do the exercises described above plus swim, heat, and yoga. It has changed my life. The OP’s dr., may want to take some time to research it before she makes an assumption.
Of course e Euronext reacts differently but, these two methods definitely work & there are studies to prove it.

@Gemspirit

I have not seen either the "Quell" nor this device. I know that Teeter makes a portable back device. Believe it is FDA certified for back pain relief, if FDA approval means anything to some potential buyers.

I've done the Pelvic Tilt for many decades, starting after my 1st back surgery. Those and some Williams Exercises are what I did, have done, for years. Several months ago I bought a Teeter Inversion Table and it works for me as claimed. My spine is missing removed discs L-3/L-5-/S-1, but my mobility nor flexibility has not been compromised.

Many overlook how much their hamstrings can play a role in some with back pain(not herniated/ruptured/degenerated or arthritic discs) because of their weakness and/or flexibility. Many studies have shown the close relationship with back stiffness/soreness, and more serious issues, to the condition of the hamstrings.

I also have a TENS unit I use for several different purposes and it meets my expected goals. Many need to understand that spinal exercises are not a "temporary" tool for only a recovery. They should be a daily activity everyone able should do to protect their spine.

My spinal issues have never prevented me from living the same type of life I lived before my surgeries and recoveries. I attribute that mainly to my dedication to keeping myself flexible and strong in the tissues that support the spine.

@hckynut~I totally agree with you that the exercises must be done regularly. It’s not a once & done thing. That gizmo they’re selling is a worthless object. If people would just look up back strengthening exercises. I hate to see people spend money while LG gets richer!

Im glad your surgery didn’t leave you with any residual effects. You’re a lucky person! My disc injuries were in the same area as yours.

The inversion is something I’ve wanted to try but, I’m terrified of the potential for further injury. That’s the nurse in me.

Having permanent residual effects is awful. Especially since we have our first grandchild now. Somehow though, he brings out the endorphins & serotonin in me!

Good luck to you. I hope you continue to be active.

BTW ~ you can google quell relief or go on the website. The company is Medtronics if I remember correctly. Works wonders on my sciatica.

My husband has had very good results using the LO Back Trax. He was diagnosed with bulging disc and was in a lot of pain. After using this for about a month, he is pretty much pain free. He us very conscientious about using it every day. He is almost 80 yrs. old and wanted to avoid more invasive procedures like surgery. Hope it works for you.
