Linzess -- Anyone have any experience with this?

I am having so many issues and am going to my gastro. dr. in a week or so.  I am going to ask him if he can put me on this or something similar.  I have tried so much other junk and nothing works right for me and I am just always miserable!

I just wondered if anyone here takes this med or something similar, and if so, what you experieince with regard to effectiveness and any issues with the med.

Thank you so much!

Have you tried Metamucil?  My NP recommended it to me some time ago when I was having diarhhea issues. I was hesitant because I thought it would worsen the situation.  Turns out, it's helpful for both that and constipation, as I understand it.  Good fiber source and not bad tasting.  I drink a glass every day, for the most part.

Common side effects of Linzess include:
  • diarrhea,
  • stomach/abdominal pain or discomfort,
  • gas,
  • bloating,
  • heartburn,
  • vomiting,
  • headache, or.
  • cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, or sinus pain.

Sorry you are having gastro issues, seems like this might harm more than help.. For me, I would be hesitant to add meds to an already compromised body.  Everyone has a different way of dealing with physical issues.  I tend to be old school and keep things very simple and give my body a break if stressed. The energy that goes towards digesting can go towards healing. Also steamed veggies can add  fiber to my system in a natural way.   I hope you are able to find relief from your symptoms and that you feel better soon.

@AngelPuppy1

My DD who has IBS that manifests as constipation, takes it and it works the best of the many, many things her GI Dr. has had her try over the years.

She tried another rx drug for this issue, Amitiza, but it still took 2-3 days to get results and it would then switch her over to diarrhea.

With Linzess she gets 'normal' results in a day, no diarrhea afterwards.

Nothing over the counter or natural (metamucil, prunes, etc.) would even touch her level of constipation.

Linzess has a program to help with the cost, so if your Dr. recommends it for you, be sure to ask about their prescription program.

Hope you find relief!Heart

ETA: Seeing the 'possible' side effects listed above, my DD has none of these or any other side effects from Linzess.

You know how it is with all drugs 'possible' side effects, they're listed to avert any possible legal liability.

Metamucil -- yes.  It gave me so much gas and pain, I couldn't handle it.  And it didn't really work well.  Citrcucil -- was not as bad but still did not gave good results.  Stool softeners --- don't work unless I take laxatives.  I know you cannot keep taking these as your body will get to depend on them.

I eat a ton of fruits, a lot of vegetables.  I drink a lot of water. I walk as much as I can considering my ankle issue.

My PC has me taking Lactulose which I am not crazy of being on a steady diet of this stuff.

I have had IBS, acid reflux, constipation, etc. ever since I was very young.  I am so tired of fighting with it.  I feel lousy most of the time and just want some relief!!!

I thank you for your post.  I do appreciate it!

I really try to handle this naturally but can't seem to find a solution.   I don't want to add another medication but I am getting at my wit's end.  I thank you so much for your kind post!

This is where I believe I am at this point.  It is really impacting my life and my well-being.  I don't know what to do any more.

Thank you for your very kind reply!

Just wanted to let you know that I edited my post to address the 'side effects' mentioned here and wanted to make sure you saw it, she has NO side effects from Linzess at all.

Yes, I did see that and I am most appreciative of you writing that!  I am always so fearful of side affects on medications or how they will inter-act with each other.  I appreciate your interest!!!!

You're welcome!

Having dealt with this issue for DD's entire life (she's 37 now), I know how miserable it can be!
