I watch some of Chalene Johnson's YT content and watched one yesterday about Creatine.  Her content goes into depth but I'd like to hear what your experiences with it are.  What to look out for and look for in brands?  Thanks

I've been taking creatine for about 2 months after taking Dr. Stacy Sims' Menopause course.  I've noticed increased ability to lift heavy and also my sleep has improved.  I recommend listeing to Dr. Sims' rather than Chalene Johnson.

@monicakm enjoy listening to her. I’ve not listened to this one yet. I took her advice about walking and pivot like you are on a runway! I get tickled every-time I walk! Charlene is quite the funny one!

I should consider taking it b/c I eat zero red meat and very few eggs. However, I do eat plenty of dairy...yogurt and cheese...so maybe I'm okay w/o it...?

The body has a supply of energy stores found throughout the cells. But in order for that energy to be used it needs to be converted to a usable form called ATP. That conversion to ATP involves creatine to make it happen. Muscles and the brain are the two areas in the body where ATP is mostly used. The brain uses the most ATP of all.

 

About half of the body's creatine comes from food and the other half is made in the liver and kidneys. Creatine is not a protein but is a chain of only three amino acids that make up its structure. 

 

Creatine is not the same as creatinine. Just be aware of that while doing your research. Those two words look so much alike and it's easy to overlook their difference while scanning for articles.

Coming in from a personal experience, be sure you talk to someone that is a doctor before jumping into it.  A lot of men used to use (and may still) for athletic performance enhancement, including someone I knew. Do your research fully and totally understand what it can do to your body.

I don't know anything about creatine supplements.

 

I know I'd never a creatine supplement because my urine tests always show a higher levels after having part of a kidney removed many years ago.  

 

While my situation isn't related to creatine supplements, I intimately know that damage to kidneys is a serious issue. I urge caution and monitoring so you don't end up with kidney or digestive problems.

My daughter had a kidney transplant several years ago and was regularly tested for "Creatinine" levels...not "Creatine" so the creatine supplements probably wouldn't affect your kidney function but always best to check with your doctor.

I've taken 5g daily for 5 years. I get blood work every year, my blood work is always good.

It helps in my opinion. Its well studied. First couple of weeks I had water retention, now I don't.

I lift weights 5 days a week. I use after I lift.
