Re: Lessman's March schedule is up

Essential-1 with 2,000 IU Vitamin D3 multivitamin is Andrew Lessman's (Procaps Labs) Today's Special for this weekend. It's a crazy great value!!! -- In particular the CVS is always a really great value, especially in the largest 400 capsule size (which is always where the very best value is). Additionally, for today's TS, Andrew has ... Below is a comparison of today's TS pricing (listed first) versus the regular daily pricing (listed second & third):

Essential-1 with 2,000 IU VItamin D multivitamin - Today's Special (TS)

400 capsules -- $79.90 (TS) ---- $119.90 / $129.90 (regular 360 cap size)

200 capsules -- $49.90 (TS) ---- $69.90 / $74.90 (regular 180 cap size)

100 capsules -- $29.90 (TS) ---- 27.90 / 29.90 (regular 60 cap size)

50 capsules -- $17.90 (TS) ---- 16.90 / 17.90 (regular 30 cap size)

Note: The regular priced sized (listed second and third) are for his  Essential-1 with 1,500 IU Vitamin D3 and  Essential-1 with 3,000 IU Vitamin D3 respectively. These two formulas are available all the time, while today's TS is for the formula with 2,000 IU Vitamin D3. -- Otherwise, all of the other ingredients and ingredient levels in these three Essential-1 formulas are exactly the same. -- Also, in each size, the TS version has more capsules in it than the regularly available versions.

The largest size is always Andrew's best value, and this TS size (400 capsules) is an exceptionally crazy great value. -- The price is a 33% savings off of the regular 360 capsule size (1,500 IU D3 version)... and has 10% more capsules than the 360 capsule size. -- So, essentially it's a 43% savings. Smiley Wink

Additionally, there are a number of other special pricing offers, as well as FREE SHIPPING on all purchases, available until at least through this monday. -- @VaBelle35 confirmed that Andrew will be having one of his monday night followup VItamin Variety shows. Smiley Happy

___

His Essential-1 is a crazy good multivitamin that I personally think that everyone should consider purchasing. -- I can't say enough great things about Andrew's Essential-1, in particular (and I've been using his supplements since 2007).

If you are curious about Andrew's supplements, then his Essential-1 products are the place to start and this TS (today only) is the time to take the plunge. -- Last night, Andrew also said that if a person only wanted to take one of his supplements, that the Essential-1 was the place to start. Smiley Happy

This is the very best TS value that Andrew has ever offered on his Essential-1 product. lol, the value is sooooo very good that I'm trying to justify purchasing today's TS... even though I'm very well stocked up on it. -- Btw, on a regular basis I take an even more comprehensive version (called Elite) of Andrew's Essential-1, but I take his Essential-1 whenever I'm away from home or traveling (since it's an easy one capsule *s*).

His ingredients are top quality and with all the great ingredients Andrew puts in it, I don't see how he can make any money on it. Honestly, I think he just sells it at around cost to people because it's such a foundational product. lol, no one will get me to think otherwise. -- As Wenners know, Chaz doesn't make any money on his part of his Wen TSVs at QVC: it's Chaz's gift to his customers. -- I think the Essential-1 pricing is Andrew's gift to his customers. Smiley Happy

I put my late 80s parents on the slightly more pricy Essential-1 with 3,000 IU Vitamin D3 (versus the regular Essential-1 w/ 1,500 IU Vitamin D3) and it brought their Vitamin D3 levels up to 30 in three weeks. -- The normal B12 range is 500-1,000 and my mom's B12 came back at 982 after using it for three weeks. -- I mention this because, as people get older, it's even more difficult for them to absorb supplements... and B12 is notoriously difficult to absorb.

They've done very well with Andrew's supplements and that makes me very happy. Smiley Happy

___

And make sure that you take a little bit of fat with your Essential-1 multivitamin because some of the individual vitamins are fat soluble (e.g. Vitamins A, D, and E). -- That means they won't be absorbed by your body (in your intestines) unless there is fat the meal with your multivitamin. -- If you take Omega-3 with your meal, you should be fine. lol, to be on the safe side, I always bite my Omega-3 capsules open when I swallow them (Andrew's Omega-3 capsules are fairly soft). Otherwise, you could take a teaspoon of either coconut oil or olive oil just to be safe. Smiley Happy

THE WORLD’S FINEST MULTIVITAMIN:
ESSENTIAL 1 TODAY’S SPECIAL.
PLUS, THE INDISPUTABLE POWER OF DIET:
MY RECENT PERSONAL EXPERIENCE.

With all the influences around us, it is very easy to forget, or to simply overlook, the unrivaled power that diet possesses to either enhance or harm our health.  Nothing comes close.  Other than our genes, which we are born with and cannot change, how we eat is our most powerful weapon against disease and the ravages of aging.  I recently had a firsthand reminder of this power and it has changed my diet forever.  I will discuss in greater detail below, but it is undisputed that the foundation of our best health is eating well.  Our health (good or bad) is directly connected to what we put in our bodies.  We can always blame our parents and our ancestors for our genes, but regardless, we possess great power through our diet.  The right path is not confusing, since we only need to look toward the Mediterranean or Asian Diets for some basic foundational principles of healthy eating.  Speaking about a nutritional foundation, it is appropriate that this month’s Today’s Special be a special version of our Essential 1 multivitamin, since just as diet is the foundation of good health, Essential 1 is the perfect foundation of those nutrients lacking from even the healthiest of diets.  I will also introduce our March Monthly Specials: CholestaCare, Ultimate Oatmeal and Ultimate Oat Bran.  These three products are particularly relevant, since they relate to my discussion below of my most recent blood tests and the dietary changes they inspired.  Ultimately, we are all getting older and the youthful “immunities” we may have once possessed are sooner or later relinquished with age.  In my case, my lifetime of security that came from “perfect” numbers was suddenly gone and I was shocked to find myself in a high risk category.  That was humbling and alarming, but also inspiring, since none of us are doomed to be the helpless victims of aging.  This seemingly bad news inspired change and with it an opportunity to remind myself of the supreme power of diet to influence our health and to thereby reduce our lifetime risk of virtually every health condition and disease.  I will explain in further detail below, but first our upcoming Essential 1 Today’s Special…

Nothing speaks more clearly about Essential 1 than the experiences of those who use it.  Currently there are over 2,900 reviews and almost 2,600 of those reviews are perfect 5-Star Reviews.  That is an astonishing 4.7 Star average, with almost 97% positive reviews!  It is even more impressive if one considers that multivitamins are typically among the most negatively reviewed supplements.  It is easy for me to prove why no multivitamin possesses the unique ingredients, purity and effectiveness of Essential 1, but even more important is Essential 1’s unsurpassed gentleness.  Unlike most vitamins that come as large, difficult to swallow and digest, artificially-colored tablets, Essential 1 comes in a small, soft, easy-to-swallow capsule that is guaranteed gentle even to the most sensitive stomachs.  Essential 1 is mild despite offering potencies that far exceed any of the world’s leading multivitamins.  It also does so without any added ingredients – NO colors, binders, fillers, lubricants or other chemical additives.  This weekend’s Today’s Special is a unique new formula delivering 2,000 IU of our special Vitamin D3 daily.  I have always considered 1,000 IU the minimum daily level of Vitamin D3 to be consumed, but 2,000 IU is the level at which Vitamin D3’s greatest benefits commence.  That is the same level of Vitamin D3 found in separate high potency supplements and it now comes with your daily Essential 1.  That amount of Vitamin D3 alone would cost almost as much as Essential 1.  Essential 1 also contains ultra-high levels of our unique Coenzyme Methyl B12 (250 micrograms).  It is uniquely absorption-protected and therefore guaranteed to deliver its vital benefits.

It is unlike any other Vitamin B12 found in any other multivitamin.  Like Vitamin D3, the value of the Vitamin B12 alone in Essential 1 would justify its purchase.  In other words, if you consider only a few of the two dozen key ingredients in Essential 1, you are saving multiples of what you are spending.  For just pennies per day you get our best formula at our best pricing ever, providing high potencies of Vitamin C, D3, E and all the B-vitamins, including B12 and high levels of Biotin (the costly beauty vitamin), along with all key minerals, as well as costly Lutein, Lycopene and Zeaxanthin (glaringly absent from most leading multivitamins).

Multivitamins are the one area of supplementation where the medical community is in agreement about their necessity.  And, if one does their homework, it is easy to conclude that Essential 1 is the finest multivitamin investment one can make.  I would agree that today’s Essential 1 is the most important product we create and the single most important capsule that anyone could contemplate taking on a daily basis.  I look forward to discussing the science and why over the course of this weekend.

I have mentioned recently on-air that there were some unpleasant changes in my recent blood test numbers.  February was my birthday month, so I suppose that is a good time to discuss the passage of time…otherwise known as aging.  The scientific and medical communities seem to accept the inevitable deterioration in our health numbers as a result of aging.  Until recently, I had no such personal experience, so I remained grateful to my parents for my seeming “immunity.”  Throughout my life, no matter what I ate, my numbers remained perfect.  My blood pressure has always been on the low side (110/50) and my fasting blood sugar (80s) and my A1C (5.2) are great.  All that remains unchanged; however, recently, my previously perfect lipid numbers had suddenly taken on a life of their own.  When I was a vegan in my 20s, my total cholesterol was under 120 and my LDL and HDL were both in the 50s, with triglycerides in 30s.  Even when I was no longer a vegan and freely consumed animal products, including butter, eggs, cheese, cream, red meat, chicken, etc., my total cholesterol remained under 150 with an HDL in the 60s, an LDL in the 70s and triglycerides in the 40s.  My lipid numbers had always been great despite a diet rich in cholesterol and saturated fat.  It was only in the last 5+ years that my lipid numbers started their unfortunate climb.  About 5 years ago, my cholesterol went into the 160s, then the 170s, then the 180s and suddenly, just a couple of years ago, it was over 200!  Because of my exercise, my HDL (good cholesterol) remained quite high, so my numbers were still technically good, but they were no longer perfect.  I was disappointed, but not alarmed.  Then, suddenly, just 3 months ago, my total cholesterol tested at 235.  I did not believe it, so I retested it and it came back at 239!!  I was at a loss to explain this!  Where were my perfect numbers?!  In less than 10 years my total and LDL cholesterol had gone up more than 50%!  That is a huge increase in cardiovascular risk.  My perfect numbers were now far from perfect!  How could this have happened so suddenly?!  Either way, I was not going to throw in the towel or give up.  I was not going to be the victim of aging without a “healthy” fight.

The competitive part of my personality kicked in and it was now, “Me Versus My Cholesterol.” smile I have always said that diet is the most powerful tool for our good health, so it was time for me to get serious about diet.  Medications were a last resort, so I was willing to make whatever dietary changes were required.  I immediately eliminated all egg yolks, and eggs have always been one of my favorite meals or snacks throughout the day.  Eggs are also the principal source of cholesterol in many diets.  In the past, it would not have been unusual for me to eat more than a dozen eggs in any given week.  I eliminated heavy cream, which Muriel would add when making her yummy scrambled eggs, and I also eliminated cheese, butter, milk, red meat, etc.  My primary sources of fat became extra virgin olive oil and avocados, nuts and seeds.  My sole sources of animal protein became fish, chicken, turkey and egg whites.  I started each day with a bowl of Ultimate Oat Bran or Oatmeal with 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed, 2 capsules of cinnamon extract and some sliced almonds or pecans.  Throughout the day, I ate healthy vegetables, legumes and soups, as well as sautéed edamame and/or dark green salads (with fish, chicken, turkey or egg white added).  For dinners, I had fish or chicken with vegetables.  Even if I had a fruit smoothie, I would sprinkle oat bran and flaxseed into it, along with my protein powder.  I also took Fibermucil and CholestaCare capsules with every meal.  A few weeks later, I called my doctor, who has been a friend for the past 30+ years, and told him I wanted to come back to get re-tested to see what my dietary changes had done for my numbers.  He said, “Give it a chance.  It has not been long enough.”

I was still so curious that I went to a local lab for a quick test and lo and behold, less than 30 days later, my total cholesterol was now 159 (an 80-point drop!) and my LDL was now back under 100.  My doctor could not believe my results and actually asked if I was taking some cholesterol lowering medications.  Now that was funny! smile I said, “No,” so he encouraged me to stop by and get retested just to confirm my new results. I did so and by that time my total cholesterol was down to 151 (an 88 point drop!).  Seeing those rapid results truly inspired me and now I am even more diligent with at least 2 days per week being vegan days.  As a result, my lipid numbers have only gotten better and they are back to those “perfect youthful” numbers from my 30s.

Although we cannot stop aging, we retain the power to determine how we age.  We are not victims.  We can determine so much of our future by being intelligent about our diet.  Aging increases our risk of heart disease, cancer and stroke, and even conservative physicians attribute more than 50% of that risk to our diet and lifestyle.  I attribute closer to 80% of those disease risks to our diet and lifestyle.  This should be inspiring and not depressing.  Aging is not a curse, but an opportunity.  Even the greatest of genetic gifts will not last forever.  How we exercise our free will when it comes to diet goes a long way to determining how long we will enjoy this precious gift of life.  Just 90 days ago, I would not have believed it possible, but today, my cholesterol numbers are now as good as they have been in decades.  We are all aging, but we need not be the victims of that process.  Our dietary choices exert the greatest influence (good or bad) on our future health and aging.  All this talk about how to eat might sound funny coming from a “vitamin guy,” but both ethically and technically speaking, even the best vitamins cannot compare to the supreme power of a healthy diet.  My hope is that my recent experience might serve to inspire others to consider that every time we eat something, we take our health, and with it our destiny, into our own hands.

If we were choosing for our children or someone we love, we would encourage them to make the very best choices.  Of course, they would hope that we would choose the same for ourselves.

See you on Saturday evening and throughout the day on Sunday.

Best of health.

Andrew

Re: Lessman's March schedule is up

Cholestacare/Fibermucil, for me, has worked.  I use it in combination with eating Primal (paleo).  While my total number didn't change, I flipped my HDL and LDL significantly.

I have not gone for my 2016 physical yet only because my work health insurance no longer requires and annual physical for the premium discount, so I decided to take care of a dermatology issue instead.

I may go in April while I"m off work.  I like to go when I'm not stressed.

@bebe777

Good Morning, Thank you for taking time this morning to put me at ease about the level of D3 that I will be taking when I receive this new TS.

I heard him mention last night how we need more D-3 if you carry more weight then you should which I do, and that he believes that this is really the bare minimum that you should be taking.

I feel comfortable with his words and with you writing about it as well.

Have a great day!

@VaBelle35, thanks so much for sharing your results with CholestaCare/Fibermucil. The Primal (paleo) diet -- and Mark Sisson's version of it -- is really the way to go. I know that Andrew and Mark are still good friends, so I'm mystified as to why it doesn't seem as though Andrew has chatted with Mark about diet.

That's great that this combo has had a positive effect on your HDL numbers and lowered your LDL number. Smiley Happy

I also try to have a full physical every year, but sometimes it's every 15 to 18 (yikes!) months. I should be more diligent but since I have a great diet and I use good supplements I tend to feel like I'm probably in good shape. -- It was interesting to read about the changes in Andrew's numbers and what he did to get his numbers back in shape.

I hope your derm proceedure goes well. Smiley Happy

HI @icezeus, thank you so much for your kind words. *s* You're most welcome and I'm glad what I shared was helpful.Smiley Happy

I'm glad you heard him talk about how overweight folks need to supplement with more Vitamin D3 daily and explain just why that was the case. Smiley Happy

He started talking about this 5-7 years ago and I changed how much D3 I took immediately. I really took it to heart. lol, I sat down and worked out a seasonal D3 dosage plan which would work for me. -- The Vitamin Calculator on the procapslabs website was a huge help because so many of his supplements have a variety of ingredients in them.

Another factor I had to keep in mind is that it's essential to take calcium in divided dosages of no more than 500mg per sitting (I take them at meal times).

Particularly in the winter, I supplement with extra Vitamin D3 supplements which each have a bit of calcium in them. lol, and I also take Glucosamine/CHondroitin which also has a bit of calcium in them. And Essential-1 has a 10% of the calcium you need for the day in it (lol, and my Elite has a different percentage of calcium in it).

So I used the Vitamin Calculator to get close to 9,000 IU of D3 daily (in the winter) and that I tried not to take more than about 700-800mg calcium daily (since I don't eat processed food... where extra calcium gets hidden). -- Then I had to divide the dosages so as not to take a combo of supplements that gave me more than about 400mg of calcium at any one time (500mg of calcium is the most you should take with any meal).

lol, and then, of course, I had to make sure that I took some oil with each of those meals so that the Vitamin D3 would get absorbed. Of course, for me that was easy... I just took liquid Omega-3 (Nordic Naturals) with each meal. Smiley Wink

Have a wenderful day!!! Smiley Happy

Hi @Kindaglitzy, lol, I've been watching Andrew on TV for ten years now... and I was surprised about the March visit as well. Smiley Happy

I love Andrew, but a number of times when he has mentioned an extra visit that's outside of his annual schedule... well it just doesn't happen. *sign* More times than I care to remember. That said, in the past several years, he's been better about keeping these extra engagements that he teases us with. Smiley Happy

Here's the basic, tried and true schedule that has been more or less the same for the past ten years. -- Four times a year he's on HSN with TS values for two weekends in a row (one day each weekend).  -- bebe Smiley Happy

_______

_______

January -- Secure Meal Supplement -- Sometimes there is also a bundle option with either Carnislim or Urgent Energy

January -- Circulation & Vein Support -- In past years, sometimes a bundle with Glucosamine/CHondroitin was also available

April -- Ultimate Omega-3

April -- Ultimate Eye Support

July -- Healthy Hair, Skin & Nails

July -- the other TS weekend value varies wildly

October -- COQ10 -- CRAZY GREAT VALUE!!!

October -- frequently Calcium/Magnesium -- sometimes bundled with Vitamin D3 -- Based on what Andrew said last October, I don't think that these will be a TS this October

Late November / early December -- frequently another weekend TS or sometimes his holiday assortment of either (8) eight or (16) different supplements to try at a cost of around $10 per bottle (each bottle is either a 30-day or 60-day supply. This includes some really pricy supplements such as COQ10, Circulation & Vein, Ultimate Eye, etc.

Wondering if an additional 2000 be too much? Essential 1 is my must have, may have to alternate on vitamin d3 in take if it's too much. Hope he has the larger size bottles, DH & I share.

For myself, I take more vitamin D3 than the average person because I'm overweight and the body sequesters Vitamin D in fat. So I have to take more vitamin D3 to make sure enough of it winds up in the prefrontal cortex of my brain, in my fast twitch muscles (which help prevent falls) and in that big old muscle (my heart). Smiley Happy

For the past 4-5 winters, I've been taking around 9,000 IU of Andrew's D3 daily. I get some of the D3 from his other supplements (e.g. COQ10 TSV and his Elite multi-vitamins), then supplement the rest with his Vitamin D3 specific supplements. -- In the spring and fall I take 5,000-6,000 IU daily. -- I don't generally wear sunscreen in the summer because I have medium skin color and don't burn. If I know that I'll be outside during a summer day, then I'll probably just go with whatever Vitamin D I'm getting in Andrew's various other supplements I'm taking (and not take any specific Vitamin D3 supplements).

If I wasn't overweight, I'd probably be taking 4,000-6,000 IU daily in the cold winters (where the sun is less intense and provides less of an opportunity for the body to make vitamin D). -- In the spring and fall, I'd take 4,000 IU daily. And in the summer, I'd take it on a day by day basis.

For those wondering how much to take, Andrew has often recommended having one's Vitamin D levels checked and I'd say it is probably good to do that, see where your levels are and talk to your doctor before deciding how much D3 you need.  I know when my levels were normal and I was still taking about 3500IU daily, my doctor felt that was too much.  I believe Andrew takes 4000-6000IU but he also says 1000-2000IU is sufficient for most people (which is probaby why he had 1500IU previously and 2000IU currently in the Essential 1).  Since he has been putting D3 in multiple products, I stopped buying it on its own.

HI @sueinsf

It's good to see you around here. I hope life is treating you well. Smiley Happy

I just wanted to mention that Andrew feels that between 2,000 IU and 4,000 IU of Vitamin D3 is what he recommends for the average person who is of normal weight.

Some factors that would lead people to take more than this include:

* being overweight -- D3 gets sequestered in body fat

* being darker skinned -- the body absorbs less sunlight and so makes less vitamin D3 from the sunlight that it absorbs

* being elderly -- as we age, it gets more difficult for people to absorb their supplements. That said, after taking Andrew's Essential-1 of three weeks, my mom's D3 level was 30 (which doctors consider normal... though Andrew feels it should be much higher). And my mom's B-12 was 992 (normal is within the 500-1,000 range).

* probably a compromised immune system would make it more difficult to absorb supplements.

-- bebe Smiley Happy

Hi @bebe777!  Hope life is treating you well too Smiley Happy

I agree with the factors you mention.  For me, since I have a good immune system, don't yet consider myself too elderly and have light skin, most of those don't necessitate me taking high levels of D3.  I also live in California where I get a fair amount of sun regularly.  Since my levels were normal when last checked and my doctor already told me she thought 3500IU too much, I don't know that I need 3500-4000IU daily.  I also eat pretty healthy and consider supplements just that -- supplementing my diet (not my sole source), so I also feel I get some of my needs through food (such as eggs, cheese and salmon for D).

I would just caution others to not just go by Andrew (or us on the boards), but to talk to their doctors and have their levels checked (which he recommends), as those are important considerations in making that decision as well.
