Going in for app. Mon. already had ultra sonic done so this app is a pre surgery app. I would like some advice from some of you who have gone through this on what I should ask the Dr. during this app that he probobly will forget to discuss with me. Anything would be helpful. Thx

Re: Leg vein surgery, advice

I had mine removed surgically once and never again.I get it done with a laser now...no long recovery from anesthesia and no pain after...simple in and out and support bandage and then ugly socks for a bit...oh and no scars.

Re: Leg vein surgery, advice

Had this done about a year and a half ago. It was a breeze! No pain to speak of. I took a prescribed sedative before the procedure and was awake while it was done. I had to wear a long support hose afterwards (don't remember for how long...maybe a week?). I was back to work quickly. I had it done on a Friday as I recall. I am pleased with the result - I had pretty bad varicose veins on my left leg. Good luck!

I have had the surgery and not too uncomfortable just the Jobst stockings were a pain...but, my veins came back and maybe 5 years ago, I had the injections by a cardiovascular specialist in NYC....very pleased and great results.

Good luck to you. My only suggestion is that you bring a note pad with you that has questions for you to ask your dr. Then you can also write down his answers.

Whenever I meet with a dr. I take a note pad.

Re: Leg vein surgery, advice

I have a friend who had it done with the laser and it looks great. She had a vein that she would nick every time she shaved that would really bleed horribly and it was completely fixed after this. I have also known a few people who did it before lasers where they inject a solution into the veins that collapses it and they worked great too.

While most of my friends have had it done for a medical reason (or a combo of the two), I do have a few that have done it for purely cosmetic purposes and they are absolutely thrilled with it. It really does look great too. If I had a problem with my veins either a medical or strictly cosmetic purpose, I would not hesitate to have it done. Just research the place your having it done and the Dr doing it and check their and his/her background and make sure they haven't had any sanctions against them (and if so for what) or complaints.

You can go to vitals.com or healthgrades.com to check out patient reviews, med school rankings, awards and distinctions. You can also check to see if they have any sanctions, board actions, malpractice and their education and training.
