Lactose Intolerance at my Age?

I'm 67 and have never had an issue with milk (or any dairy products). I discussed my problems in length w/ my Dr. when I went in for my annual check, but it never entered my mind at the time that I could be lactose intolerant after all these years, so I didn't ask about it. He thought I may have a hiatal (sp?) hernia, but I had my reservations. So, I tried changing my diet, then eliminating, and then re-introducing foods, and I am now convinced that I am intolerant to milk. No big deal, I can handle that, but does anyone have experience with this appearing so late in life? TIA
