LOOKING FOR RECOMMENDATIONS FOR EYE DROPS - ESPECIALLY FOR DRY EYES

Preservative free is a must.  I have been using REFRESH DIGITAL PF and have been happy with them, but like anything else, is there something better out there?

I began using Xiidra (sp?) RX for dry eyes a few weeks ago.  My eye doctor gave me samples to try and so far, so good.  There is an adjustment period.  Now we are waiting to get the insurance to approve the cost - over $2,000 for 90 days.

Anyway, she said I can use OTC drops in between using the RX.  She recommended Systane last year.  It was so so.

Any suggestions?

Re: LOOKING FOR RECOMMENDATIONS FOR EYE DROPS - ESPECIALLY FOR DRY EYES

Hi, @tends2dogs !

The surgeon who did my cataract gave me a list of over-the-counter eye drops.  I got TheraTears 'cause they were the cheapest at CVS.

Perhaps you eye doctor could give you a list of the good ones.  Tossed the paper so can't tell you others listed. I do like the TheraTears - when I remember to use itWoman Frustrated!

Re: LOOKING FOR RECOMMENDATIONS FOR EYE DROPS - ESPECIALLY FOR DRY EYES

Eyes have two kinds of glands which work to help keep the eyes moist. There are (lacrimal) tear glands and then there are (meibomian) oil glands. My problem is that my oil glands (located along the waterline) are not functioning properly and so any tears produced by my tear glands evaporates too fast. The oil helps prevent rapid evaporation so I use an eye drop which contains (mineral) oil and that helps me a lot.

And its night time version which is a gel tube.  I can also get it for free through my health insurance even though it's OTC.

I too use Refresh.  Have for several years.  My doctor has given me samples from her office of other brands, but I found I like the Refresh best.  And Refresh is what the doctor recommended.

Ive tried all of them & don't think there's a "right" one. I find I change brands at different times of year depending on the atmosphere.

Currently using Thera Tears Vials, Ivizia (preservative free bottle), Refresh Optics Mega 3 vials, Systane vials & my eye dr. recommends Retaine vials (use this too) which they sell & says is the best out there now.  Use Genteal gel at night

@mildoo   I also use Refresh (from Costco) in the morning and Refresh CELEVISC (gel) in the evening.

I had tri-focal implants put in both my eyes in 2012 and have perfect visiojn.

So far,, so good; HOWEVER, the evening Celevisc causes blurry vision for a few minutes and it's annoying.

I use Systane PF on the recommendation of my Ophthalmologist. I like them.
