Re: LIFE ALERT SYSTEM IN CASE OF A FALL AT HOME

I too have been looking for something to wear in case of a fall.  I did check out Medical Guardian.  Have been considering the Apple watch also.  I think it all depends on how well you get around at the time.  I'm good and do all my own things at home and the yard work. I know a person can fall and that's mainly why I feel I need something.  I feel the Apple watch is one and done.  Maybe in the future I'll need something more.  My husband took a fall in the driveway 2 years ago, fell backward resulting in a brain bleed.  A week in Intensive Care and there was no hope.  He never woke up. I requested a DNR after he flatlined twice.  Just never know.

My condolences on the loss of your husband.  I just wanted to mention that a friend of mine lost her husband the exact same way, except that he fell backward inside the house onto the tile floor.  The rest of his story was the same.  I guess maybe this happens more than we realize.

I lost my husband earlier this year to illness and bought the Apple watch a week or so later.  Like you, I'm active but want to cover all my bases. I love my watch!

My Apple watch is Series 9 which was the latest model when I bought it last May.  It's the GPS model, which means it does not have cellular service but instead works off of my Apple phone.  The two younger (ha middle aged) neighbors I consulted with convinced me to go with this version because I never go anywhere without my phone.  This is what they have had for a few years and they were happy with it.  The watch cost less and no monthly fee.

So far I haven't regretted my choice. I went with the smaller size watch because I have a small bone structure with very small wrists and the larger watch looked ridiculous on my wrist.  If not for that, I would definitely have gone with the larger watch.  But as it is, I can read everything on the watch face just fine with my glasses on.

I have the watch face set to show the time, date, current temperature, battery strength, number of new texts, and an icon I tap when I begin to walk on my treadmill.  There are a huge number of different things you can choose as to what appears on the watch face, including medical things like your heart rate. Or you can just set it to show the time lol.

Re: LIFE ALERT SYSTEM IN CASE OF A FALL AT HOME

I insisted my parents get the “life alert” including a button next to the shower. Be careful signing a contract with any of these private national companies. It was a nightmare to get out after a death and another went to a nursing home - within weeks. I spent hours trying to get out. Trying to talk with the business office was a joke. Had to pay for equipment they never received. It took 6 months to get rid of the service.

CallToU is highly rated and might be all some seniors or others need (depends on your circumstances). If it fits our needs, much less than a $600 watch and associated costs.

@patbz

I just wanted to point out that my Apple watch was $300 on sale at Best Buy last Spring and there are NO other associated costs.  It works off of my Iphone. There are different categories of Apple watch, but all of them have the fall detection feature.

ETA I just checked Best Buy and the prices for Apple watches begin at $169.99.  That's for the GPS model, which links to your Iphone.  You pay no monthly fees. That's what I have and I'm very happy with it. If you don't have an Iphone, then you need to buy the more expensive cellular watch and pay a monthly fee.
