@sfnative  I wouldn't mind paying the money if it's things I can't do at home. PT has equipment I won't have at home and I know they make sure you don't injure yourself. My objection was the PT for my hand after stroke. Things she had me do, like picking up coins could be done at home for nothing as opposed to $350 an hour.

Believe me, I know.  I had 9 months of PT/OT post-op CMC Arthroplasty +++ right hand because I developed severe CRPS, a crippling and painful neuromuscular condition.  This was followed 2 years later by a left knee TKA with complications, thanks to my surgeon.

Believe me, aside from goals, there are few similarities between hand/arm PT and lower extremity/knee PT.  BIG difference.

If you're trying to convince yourself otherwise, I'd suggest arranging to sit through an an entire post-op knee rehab session.

I would assume that your doctor will set up a PT to come to your home and I'm sure it's covered by Medicare.  Don't know your age.  I had a really good woman come with my first knee and she really taught me a lot.  You do most of the work at home every day along with going to PT maybe 2 or 3 times a week.  PT gives you info on what to do at home after each appointment.  I liked PT cause it got me out and moving and it felt so good after a massage.  I went in with some stiffness at first and walked out feeling better.  I only had one hour sessions.  They did put some type of machine on my knee after the massage and that was good.  I could show you all the exercises if I lived there.  Anyway the second woman that came with my second knee was totally there to sit and talk.  I did what I knew to do from the first woman and so glad I had the other woman first.  I do know that it was over 500. a visit and they try to get you to have 5 visits.  I didn't need 5 and stopped them at home.  Just went to PT.  Other than exercises I did the treadmill, bike and the balance ball.  I think PT is for making sure you make progress since they push for more each time.  They do report your progress to the doctor also.

I know ther will be PT at home at first then at a facility.  The woman who came to the house post hip surgery was a chatter.  She was very sweet but other than showing me some exercises to do mostly sitting down that was it.  I had DH move the kitchen chairs and I would do laps starting in the living room to kitchen, several times around the table and back to living room.  Did that several times a day. There is no safe spot to walk where I live.
