What we think of as serious or urgent often isn't an urgent situation for the doctor. If you feel your condition requires urgent attention and you risk injury by putting care off, you should go to the emergency room or an urgent care center. You can also see your PCP. If the PCP makes the referral to a specialist, they are more responsive.

@Trailrun23 - I am so sorry you are going through all this. It is extremely stressful and scary. My only suggetion would be to call your other Dr(s) and see if any of them could call the ENT's office and get you seen right away. When going through something like this, it's so hard to be your own advocate but we need to be so please keep calling the ENT's office to follow up and try to get through to someone. Keep telling them this is a serious situation and you need to be seen.

I know it is not help for your particular situation, but I feel that since there are PAs, nurse practioners, convenient care centers doctors have become so exclusive. I've run into situations with my own health and my own doctors. Seems they have hours of 9-5, with Wednesdays off and close at one on Fridays. And if there is a holiday they are not in on Fridays or Mondays. If your doctor is in a network you may want to let your insurance carrier know that this is the kind of service you are getting, since they, the carrier is paying the bill.
I feel for you cause I have been where you are, but certainly not after a surgery. Good Luck on this. I wish you the best.

@Trailrun23 Ok I know it's inconvient and no you should not have to...but there were times I actually went down to the office and got in their face. They kinda had no choice but to make the appointment for me to get me to go away lol. If you can't do that I understand but sometimes with these doctors offices you have to be there and refuse to leave until they deal with you. Good luck and hope you get your appointment. Like someone else menitoned maybe one of the other doctors involved could intervene for you. fingers crossed for you!!!

NO ONE should have to jump through hoops to get emergency or urgent treatment for a serious condition. It should be accessible and not difficult to get the care that is needed.

@Trailrun23 so very sorry for your situation.
At this point I am not shocked at the same stories over and over form Q forum about frustrations with medical appointments. I had a PCP referral to endocrinologist. The message was don't call us we will call you. They absolutley don't take incoming phone calls. The phone message said do not leave us more than one message. I never got a call for an appointment.
The clinic reviews reported a patient saying that he/she was in a line waiting to check in for appointment. When she made contact with the desk, she was told "sorry you are late for your appointment" The patient pleaded that she was in the office well ahead of the appointment time. NO was the answer.
I contacted my PCP that the endo had not reached out for appointment. I was referred a second time to a university clinic. First available appt is in 10 months.
Why is the system so broken? Our stories are not isolated-unusual-rare.
When I had covid, I contacted my PCP as instructed. My records are current but the only appointment offered was a virtual in 2 days. This is a time sensitive Rx! I went to walk in and was told "all it (paxlovid) it's going to do is keep you out of the hospital." That a pretty good plan for a 75 yo!!!
The stories just go on and on. @DrKelli I follow you hearing loss bc I too are dealing with single sided loss.

Like I said iin my post, the other drs can't even get through either. The ENT has a nurse who has been with him for years. She is the iron gate and she seems to decide who gets to see him and who doesn't. I am sure the dr has no idea I have even tried to schedule an appt to see him. I know the ER will refer me back to the ENT, so not going to waste at least 20 hrs in an ER to be told to see my ENT.
As many of us have said before...it's not the dr who runs a shoddy office...it's the people who are at the front desk. Unfortunately they hold the keys to the kingdom. I can't defend any of them. My SIL works in collections...has for years...and I would never want to deal with her. She is a force to be reckoned with. The stories she tells....

He is a neuro ent, very specialized. I think now he may only see one or two patients a day. If I had another option I would have already seen them for sure.

I would personally go to the office, tell them they already have your records, he performed your surgery and tell them your issue. Insist the nurse speak to you as she will recogize the seriousness of your issue and whether or not it can wait.
Hopefully that will move things forward as his nurse communicates with him all day and if the nurse feels your issue cant wait, she can discuss with the doctor..
