This time last year I went through this very thing. They had me right back in and didn't have me wait. It was something and I now think they had a hunch right from the get go. It was my annual too. Breast cancer in my left breast. Today I am a survivor. Had a lumpectomy, chemo, radiation. My prayers are with you!

In the past (years ago) a few times I have had 2nd mammograms and it all was ok, but it's been a long time. Don't have a history of anything. It's torture to wait.
@chihuahuamom The waiting, not knowing is very difficult. I wish there was something magical I could say to take away this worry. All I can say is that I'm sending you thoughts of comfort. If you are a "hugger" then I'm sending you lots of those too.

@chihuahuamom--I would call the center and tell them you want an earlier appt. Having gone thru the very same thing you are, many times myself, don't hesitate to do that. When I got all that done, it was done the same day; the first mammo, then a 2nd mammo and then an ultrasound ; didnt have to wait. I had very dense breasts and did this routine at least 5 times. Just call them and see if you can get the appt moved up. Hard not to think the worst but try not to panick.

Was your mammogram a regular one or a 3D one? If so, that may be why you need the second mammogram. In Virginia, they’re required to tell you if you have dense breast tissue because it’s harder to see abnormalities if you have dense breast tissue. They can see the abnormalities much better with the ultrasound, but you have to have a mammogram before going the ultrasound route. I had an ultrasound in the Spring and it was much easier with much less pressure than a mammogram. However, only a few radiologists perform the ultrasounds in our area, so I had to wait a few weeks for an appointment. Try to think of this as having a complete assessment/covering all your bases, not that you’ve probably got a tumor. It could be that the radiologists had a hard time reading your mammogram. This is a situation where it’s much better to be proactive. Try not to worry too much - good luck!

Wishing all is well for you. I had my last (2-D) mammo just a couple of months ago and the tech told me that I have dense tissue and that a 3-D mammo would be best for cases like mine. Unfortunately my insurance will not pay for the 3-D. The x-ray tech told me things are changing with the 3-D mammos as far as insurance coverage goes. The tech said eventually all mammos will be 3-D but for now the only alternative is an ultrasound.
eta - What I found interesting about my conversation with that x-ray tech is that she said 3-D mammos do not need another different piece of equipment to have one done. She said it was done on the same equipment and it was just a matter of 'flipping a switch'. Not sure if that would be true for all equipment, but at my facility it is.

@chihuahuamom To make you wait that long is just WRONG!!!!!

Waiting is really hard. My house was never as clean as the period of time between my biopsy and my results. And whatever you do, try to stay off the internet.
Before 3D, I got a letter the Friday of a holiday weekend. All the letter said was that I needed to have more pictures taken and to schedule an appointment. I had to wait 3 days before I could call to get more info and they wouldn't say anything other than they needed to retake one picture.
It is standard practice to have you come back in if anything is even remotely questionable.

This just happened to me in the spring. Found out a couple of days before my birthday and then had to wait about 2 weeks to get back in. The problem was scheduling the ultrasound. I did happen to have a dr appt while I was still waiting and felt much more at ease after talking to her about it. So try giving your dr a call to discuss what was seen. Hopefully it will put your mind at ease.

This happens way to often, this is why some places are not recommending them yearly, unless you have a bad family history or previous cancer. I won't do them yearly anymore. I think they are exposing women to way toooo much radiation.
Please ask for a throid gland collar. They have them at most places, but they won't tell you that. I found out from researching. It is a collar that goes around the neck and velcro's in the back. The girl acted like I was bothering her when I asked for it. She said they get in the way----I was like ?????? So she took two pictures and I asked if it was in the way and she said no. I was steaming at this point----I said I am not doing these yearly anymore. 4 x-rays a year is way to much radiation, then she asked me if I had a microwave, I told her yes I do, but I tend not to heat or cook my boobs in it.
I told my DR. I will not go back there again. Seriously everyone needs to ask for the thyroid shield.
