My comment is little off topic, but I worry about my Dentist Retiring. He is getting up there in age, I am 53 and he calls me Kiddo from time to time. LOL. I like him so much. I am going to be completely bummed when that time comes.

In the last several years many of our doctors, dentists have retired. It is very hard to find one we like.

My dentist is part of our University Dental School, except the dentists I see are the professsors, and they have their own practice, separate from the dental school practice which is made up of students.  I have only lost one dentist, when he changed Universities.

Re: Just found out that our dentist is closing her office

We go to a corporate practice and have for many years.  Love all our staff, particularly our dentist and tech.  They seem to have very high standards and all the latest equipment ( obviously a very big outlay).  All the dentists graduated from ASU and are very good.  We choose to drive three hours and spend the night every time we have an appointment rather than use a small dental practice in our town of 11,000.  Over the years we've used two small practices ( one in CA, one in AZ) plus two corporate practices, so we can tell who's great and who is only so so.

Re: Just found out that our dentist is closing her office

My dentist for the past 25 years retired last spring.  I'm sure the pandemic had a lot to do with it.  I am devastated.  And I even drove quite a way just because I liked him that much.  I have dozens of dentists in my area.

I decided it was time for a check-up and cleaning because it was almost 2 years since my last.  Did some superficial research and went about a month ago.  Didn't like the dentist at all and when I brought up the subject of cosmetics, he was immediately pushing invisalign.  I don't need invisalign -- my teeth are straight.

Time to keep looking...  ugh.

Wear a mask. Social distance. Be part of the solution - not part of the problem.

Re: Just found out that our dentist is closing her office

My dentist passed away a year ago. My sister's dentist retired a year ago. She broke a tooth and found a new dentist. Shortly after, I broke a tooth and started going to her new dentist as it was closer then where I had been going. It's the best dentist I've ever had.

Re: Just found out that our dentist is closing her office

50% of all physicians are employed- that is get a pay check. They do what their employeer expects. So this health care delivery model is being followed by dentist, optometrists, vets, and others.

I recently commented about those surveys that we are asked to complete regarding physician visits. It just doubt if negative responses are taken sincerely by the organization. I think individual physicans DO care about how patients are treated but never know that the company they work for is just not being kind, or courteous to patients.

It is such as shame that we have skilled, well trained health care providers and they are throttled by the employment groups, owners of their businesses, insurance companies (third party payers) and legal worries.
