Re: Just A Reminder That Mammograms Can Save Lives!

I have had many mammograms in different states.    I am cystic and require digital mammos.   I have always sat and waited for the results there, while the radiologist goes over them.    Now, I can't find a radiology practice that will do a good set of xrays while I am there.    And, if they want to see previous ones, request them from the last practice I went to, as they are digital!    I even had an ultrasound once.

I do not want to make a second visit because some tecnician didn't take good ones or they have no MD radiologist on duty during day hours supervising technicians who went to school for 2 yrs.

Any ideas?    I am told that if the doctor  requests a mammo for a reason, they will do this, during certain hours.    It's bad enough that us seniors are relegated to RNs for care, now we don't even get an MD supervising the xray technicians!

And let's remember that there is a corelation between belly (omentum) fat and cancers, including breast cancer.    Both the ACS and MD Anderson Medical Center have articles about it but they get poofed if I post them.

Yes....belly fat equals Toxic  Gut syndrome......  It has a life of its own and makes hormones go crazy in your body. So many men and woman have big guts and think it is just a part of getting old....not true.

Omentum fat produces estrogen and effects Tamoxifin.    Post menupausal women are most at risk.

I just had mine and mammographers are technologists not technicians.. we are registered by the ARRT...  Our credentials are RT (M) which means we took tests to become a radiologic technologist ane then certified in mammography. Most mammograms done this day and age are digital..

Than are mammographers ARRT certified after a 4 yr degree?   They do not have to be supervised by  a MD radiolist?   Is this what you are saying?

I am seeing the blurring of lines of these "specialties".    I DO NOT want to pay "specialty" co-pays for a non MD "specialist".    And I do not want an anesthetist working on me without an anestiologist next to them, supervising or an RN (PA, MA} diagnosing me without an MD there supervising!

Re: Just A Reminder That Mammograms Can Save Lives!

I had my yearly mammogram done yesterday, and walked out of the facility into the pouring rain, smiling.   A friend of mine also had her mammogram done yesterday, but hers was to check the status of her tumor after 9 months of chemo and radiation.   I prayed for her to walk out smiling, and relieved, as well.

I hate getting my mammograms, but I get them.  I have a friend who always got a yearly mammogram.  One year, time got away from her, and she was three months late getting it done.

They found a very aggressive cancer.  Another three months, and it may have been too late to be successfully treated.

Bottom line .....  Early detection saves lives.
