Does anyone take Jardience or know someone who does?   Please share your experience.  A famiy member was prescribed

that today & my research came up with scary side effects.

Thank you

I take one 25mg tablet of Jardiance daily. It has a beneficial effect on my A1c as I am an insulin-using diabetic, but has not made not a dramatic improvement. Its basic benefit to me  is added protection against cardio problems more common to insulin users.

For the first few weeks of using Jardiance I was stuck with occasional yeast infections that were readily treated by Monistat or the equivalent no-name OTC product sold in drug stores. After a couple of nuisance treatments I successfully overcame vulnerability and have not had to use those products in over a year with Jardiance. I very occasionally get a UTI (urinary tract infection), but it's hard to know if that is directly related to Jardiance use.

I think the mfr. of every prescription drug has to list possible side effects. If you are intimidated by the long list believing yourself vulnerable to all or any, then you surrender to disease rather than accept the compromises of treatment.  No one would even treat their pets, either!

I'm not saying the side effect warnings aren't valid. But Jardiance is a medication I think is worth trying for its intended benefits. I thought a yeast infection was uncomfortable and annoying and I resented the expense of the treatment supplies as well as the rather messy few days of Monistat treatment. If I were afflicted for weeks on end, with no relief, I would have given up Jardiance. But a couple of bouts and then no more proved my tolerance for Jardiance was improving.

I think it's worth a try. If the relative who you speak of is male, it is unlikely to produce my kind of discomfort, of course,  but perhaps some other hassle. I would not give up on a drug before a month of trying it unless symptoms were truly intolerable. I wish every good health to your family member and success with Jardiance if a prescription is indicated.

With Jardiance and similar medications like Invokana and Farxiga, the yeast infections and UTI/bladder infections are always listed as the #1 side effects, so I can only conclude that they occur in a sizable number of patients.

I personally have had enough yeast infections over the years that I would not want to take this medication. But if my doctor would ever really, really want me to try one of them, I would agree on the condition that I would get a single dose pill (or 2) in advance, and that if I ever got a UTI I would be able to get a Rx with a simple phone call. I would never do it if those conditions weren't agreed to. But, I know in advance that I'm susceptible to such infections.

BTW, yeast feeds on sugar. I think the way these particular medications work is that your kidneys and bladder will be spilling extra sugar. I would think the more you need it, i.e. the higher your numbers are, the more sugar you'd be spilling and the more likelihood you'd get an infection.

All that said, a cardio-protective treatment is better than many other diabetes medications that may lead to cancer, heart attack, kidney damage or pancreatitis.

I never took anything but Metformin, and was never diagnosed in any condition except Prediabetes, but I do know that omitting added sugar and refined carbs reduced my a1c levels to normal, and they've stayed there.

I don't take any form of diabetes meds right now, and my bloodwork has stayed where I want it.

Would I like to eat sugar? Definitely, but feeling better is a powerful incentive.

Jardiance is a relatively new diabetes drug and there have been studies that suggest there may be a correlation between bladder (and other) cancers.  There was one study that was kept quiet.  When my doctor suggested I take it, that's when I did my research... I then had a fistful of questions for her and her only response was that the end results were often valuable enough to warrant the risk!!  The thing is.... the ones taking the drugs are not informed of this particular risk and likely won't understand the ramifications for years after starting the drug.  The fact that the research for this drug kept the potential risk quiet is what disturbs me the most.

Without informing the patient so the patient can make an informed decision, they will take the drug and perhaps be in the small percentage that gets cancer from it.  I want to know, and now I do....

Since this drug is fairly new to the market I'll wait until it's been on the market for quite a while and then research bladder/pancreas cancers in Jardiance & related groups before I agree to it.

And I fully understand the need to weigh risks and for some the risk is needed....
