Is your Dentist Transitioning to Modern Technology?

Is your dentist using any modern technology, such as ozone gas, lasers, sandblasters, etc?

Our family dentists continue to use the invasive and uncomfortable drill, fill, and bill  processes.

We are heading into 2018, and please share any modern technology or non-invasive dental patient friendly procedures that your dentists are using.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Husband switched dentist to one who provides modern technology. I'm going to make a check-up appointment soon. The first time husband didn't dread getting a filling.

My dentist (in CT) seems to have the latest and greatest of everything, and I pay through the nose for it.  Smiley Sad  His work is quality, though.

DH just switched dental practices and we noticed the difference immediately.  The thing that stood out was no more uncomfortable cardboard film x rays; new office is all digital (camera rotates around year and finished pics are sent digitally to screen directly at chair ( they are also much sharper images).

I find the latest and greatest is not always the best choice in many things, including dentistry.

Yes and insurance doesn’t cover a lot of these gadgets.

Good question, but I have no idea.  I just get a cleaning and checkup and I am done.

Sandblasting?  I don’t think I’d want that.  My enamel is already very thin on some teeth and they are sensitive....no way!

I haven’t had a filling or any restorative work for maybe 10 years.  I am fortunate to have teeth and gums that are in great shape.  I hope to never need invasive dental work.

Or they will say "this part of the procedure is covered but this part isn't and you're responsible for it".

The reason I chose the practice I go/went to is because he was highly recommended and because everything is done in his office.  I didn't want to be going to specialist to specialist and back again.

Except for the fact that I badly needed 3 crowns, the rest of my teeth are no better off than had I found a plain old regular dentist.

I was supposed to go last week for a 6 month check and cancelled it.  I made the decision that I'm not going back and will start over with someone new at the beginning of the year.

He's just not the right fit for me anymore.

I do not have good teeth and I'm at the dentist frequently.  I'm not sure what you mean by ozone gas, sandblasters and lasers.  What do they all do?  I have a modern dentist and I still get novacaine (which doesn't hurt because he pre-numbs it), drills it with a high speed drill that takes hardly anytime and then fills it.  How does your dentist fill a cavity if they don't drill it?  Is that where the laser comes in?

Re: Is your Dentist Transitioning to Modern Technology?

My dentist uses the x-ray machine where you stand, and it goes completely around your head.  My insurance doesn't pay for that, so I may refuse to have it done that way the next time.

I haven't had a cavity in years or needed a root canal or anything so am not sure what other equipment he has.
