I buy the old fashioned "ice caps" with the twist off cap at Amazon or drug stores.  Fill about half full and lay flat in the freezer to freeze.  Then I put them inside my clothing or underwear to hold them in place.  Because the ice is a large so!id piece, it lasts a long time, then can be refrozen by just placing back in the freezer.  No fuss, no muss.

If I need something "pliable", I use a bag of frozen peas otherwise, I use a frozen water bottle.

Sorry, I just saw this post.  I have an issue with the sciatic nerve in my left hip from when I was a stylist at Dillards after retiring from teaching.
