Alleycat - you should have your GP check your thyroid. What you describe regarding your hair is very common for hypothyroid patients. No one I know has ever found out why their scalp hurts but it can occur with hormone imbalance and thyroid issues.

Instead of going twice, I'd call and ask for a longer appointment, maybe on another day. That way, the doc and office staff won't have to rush the other patients around.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

Re: Is it ok to ask Dr about several problems at one appointment?

When I make an appointment, I usually tell what issues I have. The nurse always does an interview prior to seeing the doctor. I tell her the reasons I am there. The doctor reviews my chart before seeing me and is prepared to go over things. My husband forgot to mention some of his issues to the nurse. When he mentioned them to the doctor, the issues were addressed and husband was told to give all the info to the nurse the next time. I think the doctor likes to be prepared & can do a quick research before seeing his patient.

Yes, it is OK to ask the physician about more than one issue...as long as you have told the appointment scheduler about all the issues when you scheduled. This allows her to schedule the appropriate amount of time. Not doing this is one of the reasons that doctors get so far behind schedule.

I would say absolutely. Bring a list and pen and paper to record her findings.

Absolutely! I take a list, Doctor's like this also, and I go over any issue or question I have.

I have gotten to the point now that I have an IPhone I record all doctor visits and can play them back. I used to take notes of all my DH's dr visits -- he has many. Full-time job!!!

Re: Is it ok to ask Dr about several problems at one appointment?

Well, I just noticed this thread was started in March. I just wanted to say to the person that started this thread that doctors aren't God. I live in a neighborhood of about 75 houses. In this neighborhood, there are approximately 25 doctors or more. (Because it's close to a hospital and many medical offices) I could write an interesting book on them. My good friend next door is married to a doctor. I used to be intimidated by them till I found out just how human they are. And there is not one in this neighborhood I would go to. I know too muchSmiley Wink I have lived here longer than anyone, about 24 years when the neighborhood was built. My husband's brother is an ENT doctor out of state. He's got a big ego and the last person I would go to. I don't know where you live, but I haven't experienced the 10 minute appt rule. I go to the doctors a lot, having chronic Lyme and Hashimotos. I live in a city of around 800,000. I know specialists are hard to get into, I just waited four months to get into a highly rated Endo doctor. Several others mentioned going in with notes and I agree. I take a notebook with questions, get to the point, take notes. And when I was extremely sick with Lyme, several years ago, I had a friend or my husband go with me for a second set of ears. As it was all I could do to even get to the appt. I hope things are turning out well for you. By the way, I live in tornado alley, also.

None of my Physicians ever rush their appointments with me, and I always offer to pay extra if I need something filled out and signed, or if I need some extra unreported medical concerns discussed in addition to the reason I came in to see them.

I always remind them and ask again if I could offer them an extra payment for their time, writing medical letters and faxing them etc.

They always reply I appreciate the offer but no thank you, as that is not at all necessary, it is part of this visit to help you in any way I can.
