I couldn't fast either.  This type of diet would throw me over the edge and wreak havoc with my acid reflux.  I also have to eat every few hours.  DH and I graze daily eating one full meal at dinner.  I could lose a few pounds but I tend to fluctuate a couple up, then down.

DH still weighs what he weighed in high school and he has eaten like this his entire life.

Google The New York Times article debunking intermittent fasting. I do it often but it definitely does not make me lose weight. Quite the contrary, in fact. My body just adapts further destroying my metabolism. Too much dieting over the years has me gaining weight at 1200 calories.😳

This sounds serious. Is there a possibility of slowly teaching your body to return to its original state (before all the dieting) and a healthy metabolism? I have no idea how to do it, but would consider doing whatever reverse things I could to turn my health around (under the care of a qualified physician).

For some reason, I have pictured you as a tiny, petite woman; never dawned on me you had ever battled weight problems. I'm so sorry to hear this. Know you have health issues and hope you'll be very careful whatever you do! Enjoy seeing your posts on these feeds and hope to see you around for a very long time. Heart

Thank you @BirkiLady . I weighed 118 at 5'8 this past June when I had a stroke, I was in Intensive Care for a week after a carotid endarterectomy. 99% blocked and the right artery is inoperable at 100%. I am up to 130 pounds now from the meds. I was told to stop dieting or my neck won't heal. It's just I can barely walk now and I get no exercise. I believe the Type 1 diabetes is the cause. I already have had two eye strokes and two heart attacks and that's with perfect A1C's. And for years I thought being thin would keep me alive. I have a lot of obese friends who are very healthy. So a lot if it is luck and genetics. Weight isn't everything.

Good to talk to you... we share a lot in common. Loved your post about Pendleton skirts and coats. I can relate.😊

I was talking to my Dr. about trying to lose ten pounds and how I can't take the pounds off. He suggested intermittent fasting so I have been trying it. I am twelve days in and I have not lost a pound. He said it could take anywhere up to a month to see any results until your body gets use to it.
Has anyone tried this and have you had any luck. According to my Dr. it works and is really good for your overall health.

@annie57

How many calories did you eat each day? How many hours of exercise did you get over the last 11 days?

@annie57  Which program are you using?  There are several ways to do intermittent fasting.

For instance there's the 16/8 method where you eat during 8 hours and fast for 16. But you have to be consistent when you start your 8 hours and stop.

Also you still have to eat healthy and not fill up all the 8 hours eating.

Exercise is important too.

Your program may not be right for you so ask your doctor if one of the other methods would be better for you.

Good luck.

Wouldn't ever consider eating within a small window of time , like 11am to 3pm. I typically stop eating at 6pm and eat again at 8am which is a fourteen hour span. To me, that's just normal life and not fasting.

I have done IF before it even had a name.  I discovered at college that I liked a big breakfast and then a large meal around 1 or 2.  Just me.  I also raised a grazer who makes me crazy with her munching.  Even after kids came, we both still weight what we did in college.

I don't think IF will cause weight loss.  Face it, if you shove down 5,000 calories in two hours you will have issues.

Look more to your food choices and exercise program for loss.  Good luck!

I do itermittent fasting and love how easy it is!

You choose what hours you want to do it and eat anything you want during the eating time.

I think it helps more with maintaining a weight than losing it.

I've never tried to fast other than a day of fasting for all members  of my church. Being a Type 2 diabetic for over 20 yrs I started making big changes a couple of yrs ago due to multiple knee surgeries so my diet includes lots of veggies, fish, turkey, fruit (apples) no fried foods. With my highest weigh being 254 over time I am now down to 128 and gone from a 1x to a small or xsm. I no longer take diabetes meds or blood pressure meds. IMO I think diet and exercise is the best way to lose weight. You and your doctor should discuss what works best for you.   Best wishes !

Re: Intermittent Fasting

[ Edited ]

@Trinity11   I dieted incessantly up and down I went....FOR YEARS, until I designed my own eating plan 16 years ago, lost 100 lbs and have kept it off (if anything, have recently LOST some weight due to some digestive issues).

I start eating at 11 AM and stop eating at 7 PM.  Every day, 365 days a year.

It's true, I'm very particular about what I eat.  No processed foods. I only eat my own, self-prepared organic foods.

I recently learned that what I do is called "intermittent fasting."   It works for me but I admit my daily calorie count is low.

Oh, I also exercise 2X/day.  Stretching 20 mins A.M., cardio (have one of those CUBII little ellipticals) 20 mins PM.
