Indeterminate findings in MRI for liver

I had annual blood work and my alkaline phosphatase was slightly elevated (the first time 137, second time 110, third time 147). All other blood work fine. Physician sent me for an ultrasound which revealed 2 small lesions (one .6 cm and the other 1.9 cm). It was believed to be a hemangioma but they ordered an MRI for further evaluation. Well the MRI revealed the same areas on the liver, small pancreatic cysts which I was told are common but they will monitor and a kidney cyst which they will also monitor. The MRI was not, however able to definitively confirm a hemangioma so they are referring me to a gastroenterologist who reviews these scans more often and who may be able to see what is going on. They did mention the possibility of a biopsy to make sure nothing was cancerous but I have to see what the gi physician says first. I have no symptoms.

Has anyone had or know anyone who has had these type of issues? I already have myself dead especially reading the internet but I also read that most cysts are benign. I really feel l in me I am going to have a breakdown I am so nervous.

Any info, good or bad, is appreciated

Re: Indeterminate findings in MRI for liver

I’m sorry you’re so scared but that’s a normal feeling. The unknown is always the hardest.

Just do what you’re doctors tell you and seek second opinions if necessary.

I’ll say a prayer for you.  Take care and hope to hear a positive update from you.

Keep your mind busy.  You'll drive yourself crazy thinking about the what ifs.  No need to worry unless you have something to worry about.  I don't know of the medical issues you are having.  I am though a three year cancer survivor.  I have 4 Drs appts and a yearly scan to look for cancer. I can't let myself assume the worst.  I like to keep things in small buckets or hurdles.  Your next hurdle is the next Dr reading the results.  Don't let your mind go past that.  Stay positive and keep the faith.

I am sending hugs and prayers your way.  I have a fatty liver and see my GI Dr. next month.  I am also trying to keep my  mind busy.

@domel

Your story is exactly the same as a good friend of mine.   I looked at your 'name' several times to see if could be her posting.  Her story started about 4 - 5 years ago and they keep checking her and she is fine.  No change from the first tests years ago.  I know you will worry but keep reminding yourself of my friend still going to work, traveling , taking care of her parents etc.    She is fine.

@domel My heart goes out to you. Tomorrow I'm headed to the hospital for a 3-5 hr test that will determine if I need major surgery. Like you my head is full of what ifs & I don't like to admit it but I'm scared. The only thing for me to do is stay positive & face whatever going to happen head on. I wish you well & will share what my Dr told on New Years Eve...stay off the internet! I laughed, she knows me too well. Blessings.
