Impossible Burger(and others)

I was wondering what you know or think about plant based burgers.

After watching the film "Game Changers" I learned about the animal protein HEME which is animal blood.

Apparently, some of the vegan burgers are adding heme to achieve the taste and texture of beef.

Does anyone know?

Re: Impossible Burger(and others)

These fake meat products are highly processed and I wouldn't eat one.  I thought the "blood" was beet juice though.

Why would I want to eat a plant-based burger?  At least I have a good idea of what's in an old fashioned hamburger.

@granddi

A quick 2-second Google search would show,

While it may be a relatively new term for many,

heme is essentially one of the most fundamental molecules

found in every living thing.

....and....

Since heme is ubiquitous and is found in every living organism,

the Impossible Foods teams had to isolate a series of proteins

from various plants to determine which would work the best

for the Impossible Burger based on properties like color, taste

and the way the product cooks.

IOW...the have vegan plant protein.

IOW...it's not animal protein.

I'm excited you've watched The Game Changers.

We have had many discussions at it on these forums.

Re: Impossible Burger(and others)

Wow! This thread opened my eyes WIDE, because I am pescatarian and have had the impossible burger twice when I wanted to feel as if I was cheating, without actually cheating. I too, was under the impression that it was plant based only. Time for me to research this, as I do NOT eat meat but occasionally will eat seafood when I need added protein. We try to eat as well as we can, and then you read something like this.😕

Thank you so much! I seem to recall a similar thread, but I forgot to research it since I have not had an impossible burger since then.

You're welcome.

Yeah, all plant-based products are just that...plant based.

Not sure where the confusion came in but everyone's been

on foghorns saying 'it's plant based!'...and 'Vegan!', so....

Re: Impossible Burger(and others)

I wish it didn’t appear to bleed. I just don’t want to see this ‘blood’ dripping from anything I eat. Maybe the burger won’t drip if it’s well done.

Re: Impossible Burger(and others)

The ingredients don't look as healthful as a good veggie burger.  I'll stick with veggie burgers if I want a plant based burger.
