Re: Icing Chest for Insomnia.

People sleep with all kinds of things like animals, special pillows, heating pads, etc., to help them sleep.  Most aren't scientifically proven to help, but certainly they DO!

Re: Icing Chest for Insomnia.

Combination:  If I get too warm sleeping, it is usually my face or torso.  Years ago I found a pillow zip case that has a cooling side. I just move my face to the area that wasn't being used.  It is so cooling that I drift off to sleep quickly.

If the torso is too warm, I just place the cooling side there and back to sleep.

The zippered cooling case has been in the washer and dryer many, many times and still functions perfectly.  I do not remember where I found it.

If you get and use one, remember to keep the cooling side on the thinner fabric of any sham.  I found that I could just place a fancy, heavier sham on top of the cooling cover pillow when I make the bed up.  It matches the sham-fitted other pillow perfectly.

My, my, @Mindy D , I guess the sky is falling down over a little ice pack suggestion that may soothe one to sleep.

Really, all that shouting? You'd think I had suggested someone perform surgery on themself!

Anyway, it works great for me often.

@FLgardener @Sorry about the caps. I wasn't trying to shout. I just took the easy way out of typing. I have no problem with individuals making suggestions based on their own

personal observations of what works to help themselves. My problem lies with the citations from research that were used to substantiate the claim. The research cited doesn't address this at all. No disrespect to you was meant from me to you. The author of the article for Psychology Today, however, that's another matter.

@Effie54 , If you had read my original post, I did not go on tiktok. I went on Psychology Today. The article is pretty self explanatory and makes no definitive claims.

I have never been on tiktok.

@FLgardener @The article includes references to back up what is written in it but these references have nothing to do with the claims in the article about sleeping with a cold pack on one's chest to alleviate insomnia. None of the research is about this. Even when noted as "in part" the research is far removed from the recommendation.

Re: Icing Chest for Insomnia.

Hunh.  Interesting.  I wonder if those ricebag heating pads, if you put 'em in the freezer, are cold enough.  I made a Big one and when it's hot i lay it over my chest and throat.  I never thought anything of it but the cold along with the weight IS very relaxing to use.
