I have a high DP, dawn phenomenon. My 2 hrs are good..I think it was you that also had this problem. I think alot of diabetics do..I didn't when I was on metformin, I had really low fastings in the am. Just wondered what you do. I have been having a snack of yogurt at bedtime, (I'm always hungry!!) and I think thats the problem. Maybe just some cheese or something low carb. I found a great website and spent alot of time reading last night. Wish I'd seen it before. It answered so many questions! Hope your inner ear's ok!

The blood sugar 101 site is a good one. I learned a lot from reading so many sites, including peoples experience with different brands of generic meds. That site got me thinking about the metformin and my horrible reaction to it, and whether or not I should try again and insist on a different generic brand or the name brand. The problem is that since I'm on disability, I cannot afford to pay for the name brand to even see if that would make a difference for me (if I would tolerate it better).

Which is why I'm kinda stuck with trying to control it with the insanely strict dietary measures. Which I have to admit I often wish for some sort of compromise sometimes where I could have more variety in my diet. I've been really bad this week not feeling well and have had chicken soup and things not allowed on the plan. It's hard when you don't feel good and just want normal stuff. Yeah, I'm making excuses... Weird how something silly like one's ear can make you feel so icky.

But anyway, the dawn phenomenon is a tricky thing and I think it's going to be different for a lot of us. I usually just have something small like a cheese stick or a decaf coffee with cream in the evening and apple cider vinegar when I remember. The main thing for me is not waiting too long to eat something when I get up in the morning.

The DP is something I watched for quite a while, but I don't check it every day any more. sometimes I swear that it goes nuts if I check it when I'm facing east on a cloudy day, but only if it's a full moon and it's a Saturday... I just shot for keeping it below 100-110 most of the time. On the off days, sometimes I could figure out why. Sometimes I couldn't.

Moral of this diatribe? Don't bang your head against the wall too much over it unless it is consistently a problem. Find something that works most of the time, and stay with that Smile

I'm sorry you've been ill! I am also on disability and the metformin made me feel awful! I like the lantus so much better! I hope your dog is behaving and your ears are getting better! I do feel better after reading, I feel more hopeful, its bad enough eating a certain way, if I can't get better, whats the point?? The weather certainly doesn't help! Take care! Btw, your morning sugars are great! Thanks for your help~

Just wanted to let you know how sweet I think you are. Smiley Happy I'm biting my tongue in such a major major way today. sitting on my hands trying not to take the bait on another thread. So many inconsistencies it is so so hard to not get drawn in and look just as bad...

But anyway, doggie has been sick, too. And the weather can't make up its mind between freezing and thunderstorms. TMJ acting up now - I think from the stress, lol. Ever just feel like screaming cuz everything is falling apart all at once? The chicken noodle soup was the gateway drug (er, carb) too. Then I had to have some French fries...

Yes, I fell off the wagon. {#emotions_dlg.blushing} Trying to get back on but and evil little gremlin is sitting on my shoulder saying things like "well since you are off, hows about getting a peanut M&M..you haven't had those in like a couple of years!!" so they are calling me from the store and I don't DARE get in my car or a bag will jump in my cart. lol. Trying to be mostly good, but slipping here and there.

Where is my monitor?

Hi Iam. thanks for the compliment, I think you're sweet too! Hope your doggy's better! Yes, I have been falling apart too and the weather doesn't help. The winter is getting old! Btw, my doctor suggested M&M peanuts as a snack..that would be like an alcoholic taking a drink..lol. Had to give all that stuff up..if I had one, it would end up the whole bag, lol. I feel your pain! My feet have been hurting and the shingles hung around too long, felt like I was being punished..so I feel your pain! Been talking to God about all of this and getting prayer. My older sons have been giving me fits too..thank God for Emmy, lol. Hopefully things will turn around for us! March is coming and Spring too..so at least the snow and cold are on the way out! I will keep you in my prayers! I had a friend with TMJ and she was taking dalmane, a powerful drug that put her to sleep. We worked together and she rode with me and I remember her driving from my house with her head out the window to stay awake! I feel badly for you!I pray you're feeling better! Its not fair!

love, EM{#emotions_dlg.wub}

You would be so ashamed of me. I bought some of those peanut M&M's. Haven't eaten them yet, but plan on it tonight. I had to go to the store because my smoke detector chose the middle of the night last night to decide to start the low battery beeping every 30 seconds. Do you think I keep 9v batteries just laying around? Of course not. So we didn't get much sleep last night.

When we needed sleep because it just never ends! We were attacked by a neighborhood dog that got out of its fence yesterday afternoon. Luckily, the owner of the other dog saw it and was able to pull the other dog off us before any serious injuries happened, but it was really scary. It went by in kind of a blur and I mostly remember my doggie screaming/yelping (mostly in fear since she started crying before the other dog even reached us). I was doing my best to hold her (all 39 pounds of her) up high while the other dog was jumping up trying to get at my dog.

Anyway, my girl has a couple of minor bites on her belly. I thought that I only had one cut on my hand after it happened. It's really really weird because I didn't feel anything else or any pain - I was just shaking. Until this morning when every muscle in my body hurt. Then when I went to shower, I saw tons of scratches on my stomach and thigh that I had no idea were even there! How is that even possible to be totally oblivious to injuries like that?

But anyway, it could have been so much worse and I'm glad the owner was home and able to get her dog right away. She was sooo apologetic and claimed that nothing like that ever happened before, etc. I've been thinking about it ever since, though. I don't know if I should have reported it? The owner was nice about it, but I must have been sort of in shock since I was totally unaware that I was even scratched up!

I know...this has nothing to do with diabetes or health. I'm just ranting. And making excuses for the M&M's that now sit on my kitchen counter. I'm going to eat them tonight. And I'm going to enjoy them. And THEN I'll get back on the "no junk" wagon.

I hope your weekend is going better!

Omg, I am so sorry about the dog attack! Yes, I think you should report it! Are you ok?? Is your baby ok?? Thats just not acceptable..I doubt your dog will want to go to that area again! Can you avoid walking your dog there??

You got me thinking, I am going to get some 9v batteries tomorrow! Gesh, you need a break! I think the M&M's are on the agenda, for sure! Bless your heart! Hoping that you and your baby get some sleep tonight. How frightening! Things need to change for the both of us, its time!!! 2014 is supposed to be the year of double blessings, did you know that?? Well, I'm claiming it for both of us!! No more drama! Please lmk how you're doing, your baby too, ok? love and kisses for you both!

May I nose into this conversation? OK, I'll go ahead!

Iam4truth, is chicken soup not ok for your eating plan? I'm pre-D. I do pretty well most of the time, but being at parties, holidays are tough. No meds yet for me.

Sorry about the dog attack. Be sure to watch yourself and your dog for infection. Go over your dog carefully to find any other bites or scratches you might have missed. I had a similar experience recently. My terrier vs. a dobie, but no one got hurt. It's scary.

Hi. Chicken soup is okay, but the egg noodles in it weren't, lol. When I'm following what I'm supposed to be doing (what works for me), I don't eat carbs. By that, I mean that I don't eat starchy carbs like pasta, bread, rice, potatoes, etc. People tend to freak out when they hear "low carb" and think it means no carb, but they forget that green veggies and salad, nuts, seeds, etc have carbs. I do eat those!

To describe it in the simplest way, if a serving of a certain food makes my blood sugar rise over an acceptable amount, then I don't eat it again. Everyone is going to react to different foods differently, and the only real way to know is to test your blood sugar after eating different kinds of foods and keeping a diary of it for a while. Your body will let you know what it can't handle.

But anyway...yeah...the noodles in the chicken soup were a no-no for me. Not only do they mess with my blood sugar, but when those junk carbs got back in my system, the cravings for more junk carbs came back. It's terrible...the sugar swings, blech. They really do go away once I get the junk out of my system. Which I need to do again. Maybe starting tomorrow {#emotions_dlg.blushing}

A dobie? I imagine that was scary! My girl is a beagle cocker mix...a cutie. The other dog was a pit bull. the other owner of course kept saying how her dog was usually such a big baby and never did such a thing before. Well, now it has. We were just walking by. I'm not going that way again now that I know that beast can get out under the fence.

Iam, I gave up soup, unless I make it. Too much sodium..love chicken soup, can you have it without noodles? I don't eat carbs either, except for certain veggies, otherwise my BS spikes. Its ok, I don't miss the bread, potatoes, etc anymore! You're right about eating carbs brings cravings! I had to give up my dark chocolate, always wanted more!

Glad to hear you're not walking that way again, I wouldn't trust the pit bull~
