IODINE FOR THYROID?

I have just started taking Synthroid for low Thyroid, for about 2 1/2 months. No improvement in symptoms yet. I have been reading about iodine to help with the Thyroid. Does anyone take this and if so how is it helping (if at all). I have been dealing with LOTS of symptoms (hair loss, swollen ankles all the way up to my knees, constipation, etc) for several years now. Been the whole route (heart, kidneys, etc) finally trying the thyroid medication. I just wanted it to help - but nothing yet.
