Re: I will never get another DPT shot

@chlema it was given in 2 parts. Each time we had a copay of $15 each. You need to wait at least 6 weeks between doses

neither of us got sick from it.

@cherry - Sorry you were so sick from the DPT shot.  That would be a very scary feeling.  If absolutely necessary I would get a Tetanus shot, but not the DPT combo.  Thanks for posting - I consider that a warning for me.

The first time I got a flu shot, I felt fine; then fainted in the elevator going to the parking garage.  Many years later, I had a serious septic pneumonia because of the flu, so now my Dr. insists I get a flu shot and a pneumonnia shot, which I now do without any reaction.  The first shot was many years ago when flu vaccine shots first became available and I'm sure improvements have been made over the years.

Not sure what to do about the shingles shot.  I'll have to think about that - sure don't want Shingles, but don't want the shot either!

Re: I will never get another DPT shot

I recently read where there's a big shortage of the new shingles vaccine.  I have a prescription from my doctor but haven't set out looking for it yet.  I'll have to get it at a pharmacy.

Not sure what this shot is, or for what reason it is given. I see @Shelbelle said she had a Tetanus shot, is that what this DPT injection might be?

I have had several Tetanus shots in my lifetime, one just  a bit  over a year ago. The only thing I have ever experienced from this shot is a relatively sore arm, not oven enough to concern me.

If you are on another med, might this be a reaction to it(them)?  Sorry to hear it bothered you.

@hckynut  DPT stands for Diptheria, Pertussis (whooping cough), and Tetanus.  Children are immunized with this vaccine, in stages, when they are infants, the same way they are immunized with their Measles, Mumps, and Rubella shots.  Adults need boosters to the DPT.  There can be some side effects and there are certain people who should not have the vaccine (or a portion of it).  For legitimate medical reasons, one of our children could not have the pertussis part of the vaccine so there is one that just has the Diptheria and Tetanus combo.  Unless there is a true medical condition that prevents someone from being vaccinated, I believe it's our responsibility as citizens, in addition to protecting ourselves, to follow through with them as a matter of public health.  Refusing to vaccinate puts everyone else at greater risk.

I am not very good interpreting initials and am wondering if this DPT shot is some sort of diphtheria vaccine?

Re: I will never get another DPT shot

A few years ago I wanted to get a tetanus booster and went to our health department. It had been over 10 years and because I had the dpt during childhood, was given only the Td shot.  I had no adverse reaction not even a sore arm.

I was reading that during a study in 2016, it has now been determined that people have a 30 year ammunity and I will probably not get another booster shot until then if at all.
