I believe there are several people knowledgeable on the bad effects of artificial sweeteners (I'm not); however, as a prior diet rite cola junkie, I quit because of the effects that carbonation has on our bones. That was about 15 years ago. It took me a long time to get used to drinking water, but now I am thirsty all of the time and don't go anywhere without my bottled water. At home I only drink ice water ~ can't do tap water. When I need/want something other than plain water, I love crystal lite or something similar.

I drink iced tea most of the time. There are a lot of great flavored iced teas if traditional iced tea (orange pekoe) doesn't do it for you.
I really like the Celestial Seasonings Zinger series. They make a sampler pack that has blueberry, peach, raspberry, and cherry in it. The Republic of Tea Hibiscus tea series is also very good. The Hibiscus Watermelon is my favorite, but it's hard to find. You can customize the strength by adding more tea bags or adjusting steeping time. I like to stuff two tea bags in my Keurig, stuff a 16-oz cup of ice under the brewer, and use the 8-oz brew button.

If you really want to read about the evils of diet soda, I suggest you visit "health.com" and do a search. It lists some very straight forward proven info on the subject. Basically, there isn't anything good about being addicted to the stuff!

I have switched to Minute Maid Light Lemonade. It comes in a 12 oz. can and has only 5 calories. It's a product of Coca-Cola. The sweetener is aspartame.

Maybe add some lemon juice. I tried all the squirt-type solutions and they all upset my stomach. My chiropractor sells a fine powder, Optima Replenisher, that I buy in a large size from Amazon. I get the orange flavor, but it comes in other flavors. I find I drink more water if it has some flavor. The Optima Replenisher is the most cost-effective, healthy way that works for me.
All that being said, even after many years of giving up soda, I still get cravings and have one once or twice a year.
Best of luck in your soda detox! Diet cola is bad stuff and you are definitely doing the right thing!
love your post can you tell me the bad things about diet soda...
The nail in the coffin for me was finding out that the coloring in colas is made from petroleum by-products. At the time I gave it up, most diet sodas were sweetened with Aspartame. I read somewhere that Aspartame turns deadly when exposed to extreme heat. Now, this may or may not be true. I just know that I was beginning to notice memory loss, brain fog, headaches, etc. It was as good a reason as any to stop drinking something that I just inherently knew was bad.
I thought of a couple more alternatives. Propel water is good and I think there are naturally sweetened versions available. I also like Arnold Palmer drink (1/2 iced tea, 1/2 lemonade) occasionally.

I limit myself to ONE Diet Coke a day.
I drink LOTS of water - I really enjoy flavoring them with the MIO drops....found some really good ones at Wal Mart. Raspberry Black Tea is a favorite!

thank you for the warning. I have heard it is bad but like any cola addict I am refusing to face facts....I am thin and did not drink Diet until I was offered one 7 years ago and it was a terribly fast habit. I am a huge water drinker ,and was only a twice a week regular soda drinker but that Diet get me fast..Thank you each again
