Re: I think my thyroid is low again

My pharmacist friend strongly cautions going beyond recommended dosages for Vitamin D.  In this case more is not better.

Re: I think my thyroid is low again

For adults with vitamin D levels below 30 ng/mL, the Endocrine Society guidelines recommend a daily intake of 1,500–2,000 IU to restore healthy levels of vitamin D. There are also treatment options where people with vitamin D deficiency receive 50,000 IU weekly or monthly instead of taking a daily dose.Jun 20, 2018

@cherry   This is important for people to understand.  Often the 50,000 IU is only administered for a number of weeks, too, with strict monitoring.

There are still current conclusions (2019) that vit.D deficiency is closely linked with MS, too.

I'm not going to get into all of that here.

Just glad you are feeling better.  I'm now wondering if the feeling of soreness, not so much pain, in my shins are related to my hypothyroidism.  I'll have to ask my PCP at the end of the month.

@cherryMy voice is quite raspy and my fatigue has come back in a big way. I can tell when mine is low. I have Hashimoto's and it goes up and down.

Re: I think my thyroid is low again

Hi @cherry  and all.

I came to “wellness” today to ask a different question, and here’s this interesting set of posts, proving HOW DIFFERENT we all are and all the subtle differences that we encounter with thyroid treatment.

Thank youfor your comments and articles. I’ve also had thyroid issues since my 20s, and am now stable for several years on Armour Thyroid.

My present endo is a specialist in both diabetes and Thyroid Disease, and she has kept me stable for the last several years.

After discussion with my internist, I have incorporated a drop or two of nutritional iodine Into my routine, every couple weeks or so. Seems to help a bit to keep the pep in my step.

When the discussion comes up I try to keep in mind that synthetic and natural thyroid hormone is a replacement for something our bodies aren’t making, and not a “medicine” per se. I think these hormones are prescribed rather than sold OTC, to prevent random abuse by people trying to lose weight. Nobody should play with hormones without trained physician’s input.

Re: I think my thyroid is low again

@cherry

I’m waiting for results of my thyroid panel myself. I plan to call doc’s office today.

I have the same symptoms with my voice and hands and asked my PCP for the test, as my thyroid hasn’t been checked for years.  I always attribute it to rheumatoid but then read that as we age, we sometimes need less thyroid meds.
