I think I might be circling the drain

[ Edited ]

The last few years have been pretty awful. A month ago I was hospitalized with a kidney infection I didn't know I had. It developed into sepsis and I was in the ICU which I don't even remember.

Five years ago I was diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis, which also developed into cirrhosis (and tests show that it's getting worse). Shocking, because I don't drink. The medical types said it's not uncommon for this to happen and they couldn't figure out why/where I got it. I have to take about 20 medications a day--maybe more--to keep it all under control. I can't even hold a pencil or a pen because my hands shake so much.

Yes, I wonder I have Parkinson's and my doctor checked and said no I don't, thank the Lord.

And I've had several other "issues" that come and go.

If I didn't hurt so much I wouldn't mind. All of a sudden, my hands and feet started hurting recently, and I mean REALLY hurting. I've notified my doctor about this and I see him next week; I wonder if this might be the beginning of arthritis. My mother had it and I hope I don't have it too.

Prayers and good thoughts will be gratefully accepted.  Cat Wink

@GoneButNotForgotten  Aging is hard on us and sounds like it is picking on you.  Sorry to hear of your trials and wish you answers to your health issues.  You sound like a strong person.

You mentioned taking 20 meds a day.  Wonder if your tremors and new aches can be side effects of one or more of your meds.  Maybe mention this at your Dr appointment.

I have automunine issues too and know how it causes several weird problems.  Best wishes to you and will think of you in my prayers.  Don't  circle the drain but keep on swimming out of it.

@GoneButNotForgotten

Wishing you well and sending you
positive thoughts and prayers 🙏 ❤️

I have Hypothyroidism....still struggling to get my medication regulated...I have never had anything
make me feel so awful 😖

The struggle is real 😫

Hopefully your Dr. can help you!

I know this might sound silly...
When I have a Dr's. appointment

I make a list of questions and concerns 😟..
It's helped me a lot ...sometimes I
forget to ask about something..

@Sassycoco   I always forget to ask my Dr something even with my written list.   I spent several days before appt thinking what I need to ask, write it down and still forget to ask something at my appt.

Re: I think I might be circling the drain

I read the title of your post, and I decided to respond, because I think you are feeling very down.

I completely support the concept of positive thinking and sending prayers and good thoughts, but I also follow the old adage of "God helps those who help themselves."

In these days of non-stop busy rushing and serious issues across the world, it is critical more than ever that you become your own best advocate for your health.

Your doctors can only provide the support that they have the time and skills to do. If I am not satisfied with a treatment, then I go to the next level up in expertise, and keep climbing the ladder to the specialist level.  BTW, I do this with all my pets as well.

The fact that you stated that you have autoimmune hepatitis and you don't drink means that the doctors did not thoroughly discuss with you enough how this disease developed (genes, infections, medications, stress, vitamin deficiency) and how to treat it.

Noone should have to take so much medication that their hands shake non-stop. Perhaps your dosage needs to be greatly reduced.

Your liver is also being affected by all that medication.  At some point, you may have to consider a liver transplant.

Noone should have to suffer chronic pain.

The fact that you do not know your kidneys were infected is also an issue. Going to the ICU is a serious situation--how is it you do not remember?

Obviously your treatment plan needs to be reviewed and improved. You may need to involve a trusted family member or friend to be your patient advocate. Negotiating all the medical systems takes time, effort, patience and focus.  You also want the focus to be on your health, and your needs, not whatever is the easiest protocol for a health member to administer.

Please do not accept that pain and suffering is appropriate. Do not give up--you deserve to live your golden years peacefully and in contentment.

Best wishes.

I'm so very sorry to hear you're going through all these troubles.  I hope your dr will give you something for your pain so you're not suffering all the time.  Both autoimmune diseases as well as arthritis can be cause the body great pain.

I will say a prayer for you and send positive thoughts your way.💝🌸
