@Mz iMac  I'd be interested in hearing more about your apartment generator. The ones I've seen look to be virtually pointless as all they're good for is providing some light, charging devices and maybe powering a small 'camping' refrigerator... In other words, you're still out of luck with cooking, fridge, a/c and so on... I too live in a condo, in my case a mid rise, and what I can tell you about our association generators is that they're only intended to provide limited emergency lighting but don't provide squat other than that. I suspect. depending on the size of the complex, a do it all generator would be prohibitively costly but I do wish we hand them

@stevieb

My neighbors & I car pooled to the local Lowes & Home Depot.  Sears would be our last resort.

Lowes sold out all of their apartment portable generators.

Headed on down to Home Depot.  Plenty in stock.  None of us knew which ones to get.  We had no clue but none of us wanted the gasoline powered ones.  I specifically wanted lithium battery charge generator.

A salesperson "personally" helped each one of us.  He explained you only need a specific type of generator & power that will meet your immediate needs.  Most of us had different needs.

Since I have an upright freezer I needed something that will keep my fridge as well as an upright freezer running.  I was recommended the Goal Zero Yeti 400 (updated 500x version now on the market).  I had to use it recently w/the last hurricane.  No power for 24+ hours inside the apartment unit.  My landline still worked because Verizon has a backup thingie in the maintenance/utility room.

I powered......

Convection counter top oven

Upright freezer

Fridge

Lamps

2 Comps

2 TVs

2 of my neighbors cell phones Smiley Very Happy

You can use extension or power strip cords to daisy chain w/o losing power strength.

I recommend going in person to the store just to have a *knowledgeable* sales person help you rather than purchasing "online" if you are not knowledgeable.

Since it was a group of us, Home Depot gave us all a "senior discount" on top of the ongoing sale (which we did not know about).

Re: I think I have a form of PSTD

WOW, @Mz iMac , that is REALLY IMPRESSIVE. I'm in the semi-country and our electrical company is excellent at restoring service when we have storm interruptions, but I've become a believer in external power sources. I have a Clore JNC660 jumper for my car when we have very cold weather and the battery needs help. I have a nice iDeaPLAY charger I got from HSN that I bring on long road trips to buck up the charge on  my cell phone, since I've gotten lazy and have the Google Maps lady navigate for me (no car GPS).

So this lithium generator would make a great addition, and NO GAS! That's so important. Several of the recent Hurricane Laura fatalities in LA and TX were caused by CO poisoning from improperly vented generators. And the price of this generator is not terrible; the 500 model seems to be just $100 more expensive.

I think that the lack of control in the pandemic makes further loss of control (as in power outages) even more anxiety-producing. It can be very helpful to some of us to be able to take control of our environment and maintain the basics. I find this kind of solution dually empowering!

@I am still oxox How are you doing today? I hope your anxiety begins to subside. If not, call your PC and try to get a televisit. Explain how your anxiety has been and ask for a limited supply of anti anxiety medication. My best wishes for you.
