I had PF in both arches.  My podiatrist recommended off the shelf arches from Good Feet ($40) they worked!  In addition, where possible I get reflexology (foot massage approx.$40 hr) it's great!

Did you check out that video yet? I have been doing what they showed yesterday & found myself doing it last night while I was sleeping. I kept rolling over on my stomach & curled my toes & pressed down. Should be doing the same thing they showed on the video except they were sitting on their heels or pulling their toes up. At any rate it really works. My foot feels so much better already just doing this 2 days now. It still hurts but not like it did. 

I'm going to keep doing this to see what happens.


@Nightowlz I must have linked the wrong video....what your describing doing in bed doesn't seem to match what Dr. Berg is showing in that 1 min video.

Yes that's it. I figured I was still doing the same thing in bed since I curl my toes up & press down on them making them stretch up which to me is the same as I was sitting there pulling my toes up towards me stretching the top of foot up into the shin area.

At any rate just sitting here grabing my toes pulling them up stretching them up towards me has helped. I'm going to keep doing it. I was stretching the calf muscle since I thought that's what I was suppose to do. It also helped but not like this exercise.


@Nightowlz  I am still confused...Dr. Berg is pushing his toes and foot down....you said your pulling your toes up toward you?? that would be the opposite....he said that's what everyone else is doing and it's bad LOL!!  Tell my PT people that LOL! 

 

Edit: ok just did what he did in video....I can feel it in my shins....I think I just mixed up what your saying your doing.  I will keep trying this way which is the opposite of what I had been told to do which is stretch calf muscles.

Finally got to watch the video again. LOL!!! I got booted off the internet. Guess our service is having issues.

I guess the link to the video he is doing the opposite.

I also watched another video The Big Lie About Heel Spurs, Heel Pain & Plantar Fasciitis. That video is where they are turning the toes up. 

How are we suppose to know who is right? Some say stretch the calf, some say turn the toes under or turn the toes up or roll the tight muscle out under the foot etc.??? So confusing?

Good for you! You can find almost anything now on You tube...some insurance companies do FaceTime after hours with your dr and you are charged an office visit!

You do what seems to work for you. "Toes Under/Toes Pulled Back", both are stretches, just different connective tissues. ALL MUSCLES!, on the back side of everyone's legs, need to be stretched. Including the Achilles Tendon.

 

Toes Up, one should feel it it the shins, because it contracts those muscles. Toes Under stretches the top side, and one can also use that to add strength. 

 

Every muscle has An Opposing muscle. Thus when you stretch, say your Quad Muscles, you are contracting  your "thigh bicep/hamstring muscle". You might already know this, but from reading the other posts, many do not.

@Nightowlz  LOL yep it's a hot mess on who to believe!  I say if it helps and is working for you then it's the right course of action.  For me I have done all of these suggestions in the last yr or so and I still have PF in both feet.  NOt nearly as bad as 1yr ago...but I stopped trying most stretches.  All I have been doing is like I posted lay on my back in bed and flex my foot gently back as if I am already standing up on my feet before I get out of bed and put weight on them.  This helps alot but it doesn't totally get rid of the problem for me.  

 

I am actually considering going to a place that uses high power lasers....supposed to help with any pain and inflammation.  Not sure of the cost or how many times I would need to go but I am getting to the point where I am thinking I should just try it.  I hate to waste more money on things that don't work.

I can’t even imagine being coordinated / strong enough to ice skate,

much less to get around fast enough to be on the spot for calls!

@tsavorite   I think the stretches may work, but if they don't work for you (they didn't for me), don't live with the pain.  I suffered for years and since my job is mainly walking and standing on concrete the entire day, I really had no options other then the surgery when nothing else worked. 

 

I did shots and the boot - and still has intense pain.  When I realized how it was affecting my life in such a negative way, I was ready for surgery.  After surgery on my right foot, I had no pain (even during recovery) and couldn't believe that I waited so long.

 

I still have some foot pain, but standing and walking 8-9 hours a day, 5 days a week, at a job for 35 years, wearing flip flops most every summer until my late 30's, being overweight, and having tile throughout my home doesn't help.

 

I am NEVER without shoes, wearing either Vionic slippers, Vionic sandals, or shoes with orthotics.

 

I can wear sketchers tennis shoes now for short periods of time without the orthotics, but I learned my lesson I(pre-surgery) when it was so bad I couldn't walk more then a few steps without  the pain starting up again and after an hour or so, each step was brutal.  And I lived with that pain for too many years - surgery was my only option.

Hi Cacablegirl,how long was the surgery?How much was it after insurance?My daughter has flat feet and she can't stand for a long period of time.She was prescribed inserts,but they don't work much.

@Bibione I had the surgery back in late 2017 on one heel.  Small incisions on both sides of the heel and according to my statement, it was "endoscopic plantar fasciotomy".  I think I paid less than $200 with insurance.  It was an in-network doctor and in-network surgery center, done as out-patient.

 

Standard cost was $2000 for doctor, $6300 for surgery center, and $1600 for the anesthesiologist before the discounts.  Because it's PPO and in-network, they covered most of the agreed to cost, which is not the "standard rate".

 

Honestly, if I had to save up and pay full price, it would have been worth it, I was miserable taking only a few steps - the pain was unbearable, and the way it was explained to me, every step I took was ripping the scar tissue on the bottom of my foot. 

 

Zero pain after the surgery - although I know when I overdue it walking now, my feet do hurt, but I think that is normal if you are on your feet at least 10 hours every day.

Hi there!  Now I was a referee through most of 2002, when I had my 1st episode of Pulmonary Embolism(lung blood clots). I didn't skate again until late 2016 because of my heart attacks and other major health issues.

 

Didn't want you to think I am still a referee at 80 years old. You are right however about the "coordination/major leg strength factors, and the need to have the speed to keep up with the play calls. You have to be in the right position to make accurate play calls.

 

Still can skate fast enough to suit me, but a little slower than when I was 63 years old. Have s great weekend now!
