I am only 70 years old and have had quite a few fractured bones in the past two years.
The doctor prescribed Evenity (bone building drug), PT, weight-bearing exercise, calcium, and vitamin D. I did them all.
And... he emphatically told me 'no more dogs'.
I tried, but there was just no way I could not have a dog to wake me up in the morning. I need a cold nose to get me up and moving.
So ... against Doctor's orders, I prescribed myself a canine therapist.
Meet Denali, an 8 year old sweetheart.

What would our lives be without them? Empty and void in my opinion. When I fell and broke my arm, I was screaming in pain. Both of my beloved kitties came running and wouldn't leave my side until help came. I have to have a furry companion. They make life sweeter. Your Denali is beautiful ❤️.

Keep the dog, leave the doctor! (With apologies to The Godfather.) Your doctor is a moron.

@juanitalinda Now that's a prescription I'd take any day...... She's absolutely gorgeous!!

That doctor will not tell me to get rid of my dog or kitty.

Denali is adorable. His lies need a lot of exercise - hope
you have a large fenced yard and someone who can walk
him daily. Walking a big, energetic dog like that is risky!

Medical decisions usually seem to come down to risk vs reward.
Having a dog certainly brings risk of falling and tripping.
But the reward of those big BLUE eyes and cold nose is also significant.

Surprisingly she is only 60 pounds, which is the smallest dog I have ever owned.
And, at 8 years old, her owners claim she is somewhat of a couch potato.
'supposedly' she walks really well on a leash .... if not, we will be visiting the dog parks pretty often.
Back to risk and reward ....

She is a beautiful dog and friend. Too often I have had no interest in getting out of bed, the only reason I have done so is to care for our animals. Replace the doc.

Yep .... pets do wonders for the mental health. And that translates to better physical health, right?
I will give the doc a break. He is a bone doctor and his focus is of course on 'broken bones' ... not mental health.
