I'm back again-more fears about abdominal ultrasound

So I met with my Primary care doc.today for regular thyroid lab work. I asked her to look at my results from the transvaginal ultrasound , The procedure that I asked you all about.  I knew I had a small fibroid and she said that if it isnt causing problems for me to let it be. Great...

But then she said" I would be more concerned about the two ovarian cysts that are complex/ lesions". She also said the radiologist wants to do a follow up with another ultrasound in 6-8 weeks! To see if these have cleared on their own.  Ugh. what?

The call i had gotten from the gynocolgists nurse-( the gynecologist who ordered this test} was about the fibroid=what my options were and that I also had two ovarian cysts--

nothing was made out  to me that these "were complex cysts/ lesions"   or that a follow-up was reccomended from the radiologist who read the reports!

Now I am  really worried again.

I quickly made an appt with the gyno for this Monday-which is a miracle that I could see her so fast. to discuss all this. This all seems very concerning like I need surgery ASAP and if I do thats fine I just want the problem removed!!

But now I am scared like how long has this been a problem and no one else seems in a rush!

Also the primary doc stated that this would have me having a follow up transvaginal ultrasound in March--- I am afraid to wait! Have any of you ladies had this before?

Again, I knew that I had 2 cysts but I thought they were the usual kind that happen in your cycle- not complex/lesions. If I hadnt gone to my primary today I wouldnt even know the radiologist wanted a follow up.

Im sorry Im rambling and worried all over again friends.

Re: I'm back again-more fears about abdominal ultrasound

You are putting the cart before the horse with all your worrying.

I learned a long time ago to speak with Medical Professionals and learn the truth of the medical problem, but then let them deal with all the worry and I place my hands in God and let God watch over me.

Let go, and Let God do the worrying before you place so much stress on your body that you give yourself a real incident to worry about.

You know our worrysome thoughts can make us even more ill.........so all this being said.....Let go, and Let God do his thing and you will be just fineSmiley Happy.

You can pray to him and he is all knowing and will hear you.

Now hope you will stop worrying so much and let God take it from here....

I wouldn’t worry and cause yourself to become ill until you have the facts from the gynecologist.

I ask for a paper copy of all reports at the time of service or to be mailed to me once dictated and signed of by the doctor. This is a double check system for me.

The cysts in question may resolve on their own as you were told by your primary care doctor.

In the mean time I would find activities to occupy yourself and your mind that bring you happiness and enjoyment.

Positive thoughts and blessings,

Re: I'm back again-more fears about abdominal ultrasound

I know exactly how you feel. I began bleeding and went to my gyno. They found I had a large fibroid and a large cyst on my ovary. Once they ruled out ovarian cancer by a blood test and cancer of the lining I had to get the ultrasound every six months for almost 2 years. The cyst has gotten smaller but I am still scared. No one calls to follow up and I have a hard time gettig through. I wonder how long that cyt was there? The vaginal ultrasound is not painful but is uncomfortable. I am sure you will be fine but stay on top of it. No one will care if you don't. I found that out. I have to call now to see when my next ultrasound is due. I wanted them to take out the ovary but since I had 2 C sections they said I had a loy of scarring which would be a problem. Take care and GOD BLESS!

Re: I'm back again-more fears about abdominal ultrasound

I went through this last fall. Had all the tests; returned in six weeks for additional tests. Now I'm scheduled for every six months. So far, so good. Have not had any further bleeding. I'm letting my Gyno. worry about it. She's the expert and is paid to care for me. I simply don't have time for worry in my life any longer. If bleeding begins again, she'll see me early.

BTW: I have found that keeping my diet low in salt eliminates any spotting.

Don't over think it or you will drive yourself crazy.  Having been through the endometrial cancer journey, absolutely nothing is quick.  Things get scheduled in there own sweet time.  The Dr not acting quickly means nothing.  Followups are just that.  You get them with mammograms and the vast majority turn out to be a shadow.  It sounds like you are getting good medial care.  Take a breath and relax.

Re: I'm back again-more fears about abdominal ultrasound

I can imagine how freaked out you are because I went through something similar. I ended up having two humongous complex cysts removed and it turned out they were not cancerous. <whew!> Of course while waiting for the surgery I drove myself crazy Googling and freaking and Googling and freaking some more.

If they advised you to wait for 6 weeks and have another ultrasound that means that the cysts are probably not large enough under the protocol to warrant immediate removal. The doctors believe that there's a chance they might shrink on their own over the course of a cycle. Since you're still having your periods there's a good chance they will. So hold tight for a few weeks, have the ultrasound, and if they don't show signs of shrinking talk it over with your doctors and schedule the surgery. Rest easy that this is a Really Easy surgery to have. I had it as an out-patient. Went home that day, didn't need any painkillers. The only hard part was the fright.

You might ask your doctor to show you the ultrasound images of the cysts. Ask what type of cysts the think they night be. If there is internal blood flow into the cysts ask what the pressure flow number was on the ultrasound and whether the blood flow is of unilateral, equal pressure on both cysts. Bear in mind that there is currently no imaging test, including MRI, CT, ultrasound, etc. that can determine whether a cyst is cancerous. You might also ask for the CA125 blood test which can roughly indicate whether there might be any concern about ovarian cancer, but which is by no means conclusive or even accurate or even in the ballpark at times.

And try to calm down. I know easier said than done. Woman Wink  Camomile tea helps at night. So does cuddling with a dog and good stiff brandy.

Good luck! Heart Woman Happy Heart My thoughts and prayers are with you!

Re: I'm back again-more fears about abdominal ultrasound

Take a deep breath. Most cysts are nothing.

my mom had a cyst that was found during a Pap smear. She had a ultrasound done and seen a Gyno. The specialist said because of my moms age it probably should be removed because it wouldn’t go away on its own. Well it did go away on its own. It never did bother her when she had it.

Always get copy of radiology report for your records and so you can go over it with doctors. In fact get copies of ALL tests done. What 1 doctor may feel is a big deal another may not OR it could be overlooked missed...lookout for yourself.
