Skin cancers can develop anywhere, not just on exposed areas.  This is why full body checks are important.  What you can’t see can hurt you !

Hey @Laura14....in so many words, they will have you strip down give you a lovely gown to cover your self and he/she will look over your body........

@Laura14 My derm checks my entire body, including digging through my hair to see my scalp. The only place not checked is my--umm inside my body where my gynecologist checks.  My derm has asked if my gyn has ever commented on any moles there, leading me to believe sometimes that is checked, too.  

I think derms are experienced in making the patient feel comfortable through the process, starting by checking the areas outside the gown first, then moving the gown a section at a time to see everything underneath.  My derm asks bras and panties not be left on for the skin checks.

In fact, I dropped the paper sheet and said,  "Let's just get on with the exam." (He's seen everything before. That paper was so annoying to me. How does one really cover up with rough paper?) He grinned and laughed.  **Best wishes, Laura!**

I've had so much skin cancer removed I have to do the skin check every 6 months.

@Laura14It was not! But it's a quick exam. When he was doing the actual procedure (the "freezing torch" thingy) I warmed up out of fear! (That was not necessary. Painless.) You are in my thoughts, prayers and humor! <3
