@Tribesters,
I honestly do not believe there is a noise to record, but I do think halfpint1 hears a noise, that is coming from within.

Her son lives within walking distance, and is in the house often; he hears nothing. Police came in the middle of the night in response to her call, and they heard nothing. The OP has paid for 5-6 service calls on her a/c within the 2 1/2 years she has been obsessed with this noise, and no one has heard anything. Luckily, no one has taken advantage of her financially.

Son is retired and takes OP anywhere she needs to go, but he does not appear to be in tune with what is really going on with his mother. Because she functions well and still does what she's always done, I don't think he realizes there are serious problems that need to be treated.

OP is clinging to previous suggestions of tinnitis, white noise and melatonin, instead of opening up to her doctor about this noise. He has no idea of all the people who have responded to her phone calls, and I'm not sure son is even aware of the police and service techs visits to the house.

I think halfpint1 needs interventional help from her medical doctor or a psychiatrist immediately.

Your post bears repeating @RedTop.

It certainly explains everything...

There is no such thing as a "hearing doctor". Is he an ENT doctor or a tech that does hearing tests?

Older people call them that, she is not from a medical field.

Do you live in an old house? In the hot weather old homes can make odd noises especially from the heat enclosed in the attic? Do tyou have mice maybe or a critter in or around the house , Maybe a racoon or bats in the attic , Check these things out , call a caroenter in to check .If not see ahearing specialist.Also old pipes in your homecan make noises .

"a tech that does hearing tests" is called an audiologist.

Ear Doctors, Audiologists, Hearing Aid Specialists — What's the Difference? An audiologist is a licensed hearing healthcare professional who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of hearing loss and balance disorders in adults and children. You can think of an audiologist primarily as a “hearing doctor.”

This OP most likely needs PROFESSIONAL MD because I'd just bet what she really needs has nothing to do with her hearing a whole lot to do with her mental state. She needs a DOCTOR who is able to see a whole person , not a tech who will only pay attention to one thing and will ignore everything else about her.Also an audiologist will just do a hearing test - not evaluate all her ear - nor look for issues past how bad or good her hearing is. All he does is administer a test and give the result. She needs so much more than that!

=============

A noise isn't going to hurt you. You've heard noises no one else can hear for months now. Leave your son alone, and patiently wait for your doctor appointment. Have you given any thought as to how you would handle this matter if it turns out there is nothing wrong with you health wise?
