Re: I called my Dr. office 2x, no call back.

@QueenDanceALot  I guess it bends to a degree.  They said I was to sit with it elevated and not with my feet on the floor.  I have to keep it straight getting up and down.  I'm just doing what they said.  I have to keep a towel rolled under my foot when it's elevated.  My foot can't hang off the end of the footrest of the recliner.

Hopefully, I will find out tomorrow morning what in blazes is going on.

@CrazyKittyLvr2

I am sure you have to keep it elevated when you sit to keep the swelling down.

But yeah, you will be bending it to walk.  That's just a natural movement of the knee joint.  I would be very surprised if they want you to keep it straight at all times.  As another poster said, it needs to bend in order to keep it from stiffening up.

I hope you do hear back from your doctor tomorrow.  Crazy that no one got back to you.

My home health/PT woman came today.  My discharge papers say not to bend my right leg.

She said "how do I do PT on you and not bend your leg/knee?  Did they do something different during surgery?"  If they did, no one told me.  Someone else from hospital came in the next morning after surgery and did a brief PT session and she had me bend my leg.  However, I was told to keep my leg straight when rising or sitting.  No easy task.

I called Dr. office while she was here at 11:30 am left message. Office goes to lunch from noon to 2.  Called at 2:10 pm, left another message.  No one called me back.  Called woman from home health and told her.  She was going to call also. She would have called me if they had called her. Nothing.

I am not a happy person. Won't not bending my knee cause issues the later I wait?  I don't want to assume it was an error and do it if there is a reason not too.

@CrazyKittyLvr2 It is incumbent on your medical professionals to call the surgeon and ask what is the reasoning or did his PA or SA make a mistake when writing the orders.  Occasionally, the social worker writes the orders and they are not always perfect.

@CrazyKittyLvr2   Hi - maybe google or youtube can give you some help.  Just a thought, since you can't get your doctor until Monday.  You can call him/her tomorrow and leave a message and hopefully you'll get a call back.

Good luck......

@sophiamarie

No googling.  Her healthcare worker can get in touch with the doctor.  It is his/her place to do that, not the patient.  It needs to be done sooner rather than later and they know how to get in touch.  They should do this.  What in the heck is youtube for in her professional medical care.

@RedTop

Your experience was very similar to what my brother experienced with both his knee replacements, except his post hospital hospital PT was done in home.  A CPM was delivered to his home and was waiting for him upon his discharge.

Don't surgeons/clinics usually have a service that patients or even ERs can call to reach a dr. in the event of an urgent afterhours or weekend emergency?  If your surgeon doesn't call at least they should usually have another dr. who covers for the afterhours/weekend stuff.

@Nonametoday, just want to make sure and correct this, since doctors' offices in fact still have answering services for after hour calls.  I can't say all doctor's do, but this is big business today.  There are big companies that offer this service for various practices.

Most speciality physician's such as cardiologists, vascular surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, neurologists, etc.  have to have an answering service. If nothing else, a number of hospitals always have certain types of surgeons on call in case they need someone to handle a case that comes through the ER.  Large trauma hospitals and/or teaching hospitals will always have an orthopedic surgeon for example, available at all times.  But other hospitals across the country don't.  So if someone comes in with multiple fractures due to a motor vehicle accident needing surgery, the ER doc will have staff contact the ortho surgeon on call for the hospital.

Almost all docs in this area have after hour answering services for their patients.  Now, a dermatologist or some primary care physicians may not have an answering service, but most surgeons and specialists do.

@Nonametoday, Social workers cannot under any circumstances write medical orders for a doctor.  They can certainly obtain resources for a patient, but they can't write medical orders.  I think maybe you might be confusing that with some other role?  In the United States the only groups that can write medical orders are medical doctors, physician assistants, and advanced practice registered nurses.  Even general registered nurses cannot write medical orders.

@CrazyKittyLvr2, I did see on the other thread that you got your answer.  Glad to hear your question was answered!

@CrazyKittyLvr2

I am so sorry you were not able to get a response from your doctor. (at least today things are better)

My husband is a recently retired orthopedic surgeon.  He always gave his patients his personal number and instructed them to call ANY time. (and they did)

Re: I called my Dr. office 2x, no call back.

My dr’s office doesn’t return any calls until the office closes for the day. If you leave a message during office hours, you are just out of luck. I hate it!
