I've read if you decide to stop doing it your body will start storing more fat. Does anyone have an info about that?

@colliemom4  Think about it like this.  When you aren’t fasting, you’re eating more often.  If you quit fasting and eat more often you could end up gaining weight.  It also depends on what you’re actually eating.  If weight loss is your goal, that’s still possible with a keto way of eating and without fasting.  It may not happen as quickly but that’s ok. Keto is a lifestyle, not a temporary diet.

For anyone looking for an inspirational video on losing weight, here is a great 20 minute Dr Berg video with a woman who went from 315 to 138 lbs...

Google this title:

From 315 lbs (143 kg) to 138 lbs (63 kg) Using Keto and Intermittent Fasting: AMAZING!

And here's a fabulous quote from someone who posted a response to that video:

"You can't change your body, until you first change your mind..."

Here's another inspirational video:

3-Year Follow Up Interview with 600+ lb Steve

And a Dr Berg video for those interested in starting a keto lifestyle:

We have been doing IF for awhile now...started with 16/8 and DH & I do OMAD a couple of days a week now. It will be for the rest of our lives.

We don't skimp on salt or fat (not veg oils that cause inflammation, but avacado oil and bacon grease, coconut oil are all good fats)...our bodies need them. It is sad that our gov/pharma/CSPI has made folks fearful of both.

For those interested, Dr Ken Berry & Dr Berg have videos available on salt. For those that live in fear of fat in their lifestyle, I highly recommend watching a long youtube video documentary called FatHead (1:44 - 1 hour/44 minutes). It is quite eye opening. Honestly, DH and I are angry that we have been spoonfed cr*p about an upside-down food pyramid all our lives. We also blame ourselves for getting on the band wagon in the 70's/80's of thinking a keto/low carb lifestyle was just a silly fad. We wouldn't have developed so many health issues if we lived that lifestyle in the 1st place.

We couldn't be healthier now...and we both lost a ton of weight...so very happy Smiley Happy

We finally took off our horse blinders and rose colored glasses Sept 2018. Folks, it is not fat & salt that is the enemy...it is carbs/starch/sugar.

As for that documentary video, it explains it all...the bottom line, easy to understand basic info of keto/low carb...info about cholesterol, insulin/insulin resistance and all the added facts of the bologna we have been fed all our lives.

Do Not skip through it, you will miss key points throughout. If you don't have time to watch it completely, watch it in chunks of time, but watch to the end.

I also recommend reading 'Lies my Dr Told Me' by Dr Ken Berry. Dr Becky has a new great book on IF - guide & cookbook.

@Susan Louise 100%!  Even though I’m on a 16:8, now and then I’ll do OMAD.  Back in the day, I could never do that.  I’d have breakfast at 7:00AM, be starving by noon, and dinner would always include potatoes, rice, or pasta.  I wish I knew about keto and IF ages ago!

@JeanLouiseFinch   As I mentioned, I knew about keto, but didn't take it seriously in the 70's/80's. I got on that overstuffed bandwagon with everyone else and thought it was a silly fad. I didn't know about IF back then...and not really until a few years ago when DH and I started this lifestyle.

I think back at how many years I now feel brainwashed...it's close to 50...I'm 61 yrs old. The teachers started pushing the literally 'fictitious' food pyramid in Home Economics classes when I was in Jr & Sr High school...maddening...absolutely maddening.

I am not a medical person at all but for some reason, intermitten fasting seems like all kinds of bad to me and unhealthy, particularly the 5:2 plan.

I just don't understand the concept of starving yourself for a couple of days a week.

I did it by eliminating all cheese and condiments permanently (mayo, ketchup and Miracle Whip).

@SilleeMee I don't want this to come off as rude but how much of that stuff were you eating that cutting that out would give you a 20 pound weightloss?  I cannot tell you the last time I had any type of condiments.  I do shred cheese for my salad with dinner but other than that, I don't eat cheese much either.

A friend of mine lost 10 pounds a few years ago when she gave up wine for Lent.  Again, I rarely drink so I couldn't imagine how much wine she was consuming that she'd lose 10 pounds by giving it up.  LOL

@Lipstickdiva

It took over a year to lose the 20lbs. I never ate that much cheese or condiments but those things contain a lot of empty calories plus the sugar and salt content is too high.

@Lipstickdiva If you want to talk science, we can do that, but I would recommend that you look up videos on the topic by Dr. Eric Berg.  Intermittent Fasting is not starving one’s self.  Done correctly, it’s just delaying eating and eating at certain times.  Mankind was never meant to eat 3 times a day and have snacks in between.  That came along with commercial food production.   Delaying eating and eating within a smaller window keeps insulin more constant rather than triggering it numerous times a day.  After continuously eating several times a day, your liver ends up rebelling with a condition called insulin resistance. If you see someone with a protruding belly, it’s likely they have insulin resistance because fat builds up around the liver.  When someone fasts for 18 hrs., that triggers something called autophagy, which is the body’s way of recycling old, damaged proteins which has many benefits. The longer the fast beyond 18 hrs, the deeper the autophagy.  Pairing IF with a keto way of eating is very good at keeping the insulin low and feeds the brain and gut with healthy fats they crave.

@JeanLouiseFinch , I'm talking more about the 5:2 plan which is a type of intermittent fasting.  5 days a week are "normal" eating days and the other 2 days you only eat 500-600 calories.

@Lipstickdiva  I’m not fond of that routine either.  It really isn’t true IF since the individual is still eating and those two days and there’s no restrictions on the “normal” days.  Bad idea.

Gosh, all my life I have studied nutrition and health by observing my body. Thank heavens it has come naturally.
