Hypothyroidism And Fasting Blood Tests

If anyone has had these tests, do  you take or not take your  thyroid pill before the test?

Re: Hypothyroidism And Fasting Blood Tests

I had asked my doctor as I had the same question as you dear, and she replied to me that that all medications I am currently taking I could have them in my system before the blood is checked.

You should perhaps, telephone your doctor dear, and ask what you have in mind.

I have always taken my Levothyroxine prior to my blood tests. I never even thought not to.

I always take it After my labs. I have read to take it after.

I also use NP Thyroid sublingually. It's like the old Armour only better IMO.

When I have my thyroids levels checked, they don't want me to take my thyroid pills, until after the test is over

Ask your doctor.  It depends what medications you take and what the tests are.  Sometimes I have to split them up between days.

If You take Dessicated Thyroid medication it says this on Stop The Thyroid Madness wesite.

We found out that we did NOT want to take desiccated thyroid before labs or you can get a false high FT3, called the peak, which tends to create the false impression that we’re on too much, yet we haven’t been at all.

If you don't use dessicated medication I don't think it would matter unless you are adding something like Cytomel that would affect your T3.

If you have always taken it before labs I would continue doing that unless you take dessicated.

Re: Hypothyroidism And Fasting Blood Tests

I have always taken my thyroid pill before a test. Never been told not to. I would think you would need to. If not it may throw your levels off.
