I have sleep apnea. I'm a light sleeper. The slighest noise will wake me or prevent me from falling asleep. My husband snores. Some nights are just so horrible. For a time, we slept in different rooms. He uses Afrin at night, has for years. Sometimes it helps. But about two months ago we put the humdifier next to his side of the bed. It has helped a lot.

Snoring is a subject that just infuriates me!! My stupid ex snored---like a frieght train and I mean that literally!! You could hear him from the upstairs main bedroom all the way downstairs, with the door shut!! And for years he wouldn't do anything about it. I finally moved into my own room as I am a very light sleeper and had 2 kids to deal with as well as 2 jobs. I spent more days than not, being angry at how selfish he was--Yes, he did have apnea and yes he did finally did go to a sleep dr and yes he got a CPAP machine--but didn't wear it and so I stayed in my room until we divorced in 2022---and am now happily sleeping--better and not angry---without that horrible, annoying noise demon next to me!!!

A person’s diet can influence their risk of obstructive sleep apnea, a new study says.

Those who eat a healthy plant-based diet rich in vegetables, fruit, whole grains and nuts are less likely to suffer sleep apnea, according to findings published Feb. 20, 2024, in the journal ERJ Open Research.
On the other hand, people who eat more meat or indulge in unhealthy vegetarian diets high in sugar, carbs and salt are more at risk for sleep apnea.
“These results highlight the importance of the quality of our diet in managing the risk of OSA [obstructive sleep apnea],” said lead researcher Yohannes Melaku, from Flinders University in Adelaide, Australia.
People with sleep apnea often snore loudly and their breathing starts and stops during the night, causing regular brief wakefulness, researchers explained in background notes.
Sleep apnea can increase a person’s risk of high blood pressure, stroke, heart disease and type 2 diabetes, researchers said.

A whopping 39 million American adults have sleep apnea — not to mention all the partners that have put up with their scary sleeping habits.
Three in four Americans suffer from sleeping disorders — switching your diet may help, scientists say.

Not all snorers have apnea, but the two often go hand-in-hand. As snoring gets louder, chances of having sleep apnea are greater and greater. If you have apnea, your bed partner might notice that the snores are punctuated by pauses in breathing. Those are apnea episodes, and they can recur hundreds of times a night.
