Huge recall on cheese dips from different companies. Salmonella

[ Edited ]

I'm going to post the first one in this box and add the other ones to subsequent post boxes because there isn't room to post in just this text box.

COMPANY ANNOUNCEMENT

Kroger Delta Division Recalls Cheese Dips Because of Possible Health Risk

When a company announces a recall, market withdrawal, or safety alert, the FDA posts the company's announcement as a public service. FDA does not endorse either the product or the company.

Summary
Company Announcement Date: August 12, 2020 FDA Publish Date: August 12, 2020 Product Type: Food & Beverages Reason for Announcement:
Potential for Salmonella
Company Name: Kroger Delta Division Brand Name:
MURRAY'S, JARLSBERG, DELI
Product Description:
Cheese Dip

Company Announcement

Kroger Delta Division is recalling cheese dips sold in our deli departments because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. No customer illnesses have been confirmed to date.

On July 31, the company was notified by supplier Onions 52 that it had received red, yellow, and white onions from Thomson International, Inc., which had been implicated in the salmonella-related outbreak. On August 1, bulk onions sourced from Thomson International, Inc. were removed from sale in stores that had been identified as receiving the affected product. Subsequently, it was determined that several in-store made cheese dips may have used red onions from the produce department as an ingredient. The dips, which are in plastic containers, were sold between May 15, 2020 and August 6, 2020. Items impacted include:

THERE ARE TWO OTHER KROGER DIVISIONS WITH THE SAME RECALLED CHEESE DIPS. If you shop at Kroger's you can ask if your store is affected, if you are  going to buy cheese dip. The product names and numbers are the same as the ones in this post.

@Mindy D  WOW!😲

Thank you for posting this! I've noticed you posted several other warnings for us lately, so thank you for posting those as well.👍👍

I am really surprised at the number of companies issuing recalls this week! Do you know if this is in fact the norm, and we just don't hear about them, or is it a worrisome new trend?

@SandySparkles It's the norm and it's been this way for years and years. Right now there's an outbreak of Salmonella Newport from the onions in these foods. There are hundreds of cases. Luckily, no deaths. This will be expanding in scope because some suppliers are only just getting notice that the onions they bought from Thompson's onions are affected by the recall. There are probably plenty of boxes and bags of the onions still sitting in food production facilities. I just post because I feel that if I can keep one person from getting sick it's worth it.
