There is no way to get away from the danger of using machinery.  My father had a basement full of them and in all the years he used them thank God he never had an accident.

 

I am sorry your husband was hurt and yes, it could have been worse.  Hopefully it will never happen again.  I am so glad for both of you that it wasn't worse, take care of one another.
