I saw a documentary on youtube a few months back, called "Under Our Skin" about Lyme disease. Very fascinating.

Wow! I didn't know that about Howard Stern. My youngest daughter had it a few years ago. She goes to a Dr for her Chronic Fatigue (arthritis Dr).
The arthritis Dr ran blood tests (she does it every now and then anyway) and found it.
She had to take massive doses of some kind of antibiotic. She said she felt like she was dying. The medicine made her very sick. She still gets checked every now and then.
I don't remember a lot about it. She's an adult so she handled it mostly herself.

I read that Daryl Hall has it and Howard Stern thinks more people should be aware of it so more research can be done about it.
I totally agree with Howard Stern.

David Foster's wife, Yolanda, has this, and a year or so ago she was bedridden for a year . It is now affecting her brain, memory, concentration, etc., and she is seeking treatments wherever she can.

I'm so very sorry to hear about your daughter. You definitely have a right to your frustration, and I agree with you.
I just wanted to mention to everyone that it is very important to save and preserve the tick if you can, and bring it in to your doctor immediately. Don't let them make you wait a week. If there is any delay, just walk in and demand they at least look at the tick.
I found two ticks on me last summer. YUCK! Both times I took a small glass container (makeup sample size) put 1/2 a cotton square in it and then put the tick inside and covered the tick with several (4-5 or more) drops of mineral oil as suggested. The mineral oil preserves the tick so it won't dry out. They were very small, but I still wasn't sure if the were deer ticks or not. Bringing them in confirmed that they were in fact deer t's. They gave me a test and I was put on antibiotics for a month both times, even w/the tests for Lyme's not showing yet at the time.
I did have the red markings w/one of them and not the other on my skin. We live way up North so their everywhere. My doctor said that they give antibiotics to everyone that has been bitten by any type of tick period, be it deer or not as they ALL carry nasty diseases, with the deer tick being the one that carries Lyme's. Scary thing is, even with taking antibiotics, they don't always address the problem w/Lyme's. In other words, there really isn't a sure fired cure.
I did have some symptoms w/joint pain, headaches, nausea and other's. I was told that it could take several months, a year or longer before any major complications could come up, and to always have it on my medical information card that I was diagnosed with having been bitten by a deer tick. It seems like the majority of the doctor's in our area are open to the fact that Lyme's disease is real because of more and more being diagnosed up here in the Northern area. (Lake Superior/Wisconsin/MI and surrounding.) However, there are also a lot of physicians, insurance and other's all over the globe that are unfortunately putting blinders on not wanting to Deal with it, and that should anger everyone.
My best to both you and especially your daughter and other's who are suffering w/this horrible illness.
Thank you DooBoo for the PLM site you gave.

It always amazes me- the number of people that post on a thread (not just this one) that don't even skim the prior posts!!
My sister is a rheumatologist that specializes in lyme- unfortunately with the testing there are a lot of false negatives. And false positives as well. You need to be tested - and retested - over a period of time to be diagnosed accurately.

Yes . . . and his wife and stepkids too. Apparently they live in the wilderness where the deer roam.
I live in the same area as Daryl Hall and it is not a wilderness area...we are overrun with deer..they roam in the cities and the highways...every few years Vassar College wants to cull the herds that roam their properties and a group of locals always protest it..they go so far as to instigate law suits against the killing...just about everyone i know has had a bout with Lyme whether they live in the city or country....

Same with me- I live by the Doris Duke Estate in NJ and there are all sort of legal/environmental concerns about protecting the deer & wildlife. Until they run across the road and crash into your moving car!
I've watched Daryl's music show - Live from Daryl's House. His home seems to be in a more private area with lots of property - rather than the wilderness.

I wouldn't know, that's what he called it.
