Re: How urgent is your Urgent Care?

There's 2 urgen cares nearby, hours are 7-7 M-F and 8-4 on weekends. I wish they were open later on weekends, I was walking with a friend who suddenly felt extremely dizzy and everything was blurry and had to take her to ER instead of urgent care because it was 5 pm on a Saturday. She was fine, but the ER was just crazy.

Re: How urgent is your Urgent Care?

I think part of the overcrowding in waiting rooms is because some go to the wrong facility.

Emergncy rooms are supposed to be for life-threatening situations ... heart attack, gun shot wounds, etc.

Urgent care is for serious, but not life-threatening .... broken arm, cuts that need stitches, etc.

ER is open 24/7.  Urgent care here is open 8am to 10pm.

Good to know the hours beforehand.

There are several around.  Very useful if appointments with usual PCP are booked out.  Actually I have used them often.  Wonderful.

There are many Urgent Cares in my area.  Several different companies.  All with varying days and hours.

Re: How urgent is your Urgent Care?

I had a strange happening at most recent urgent care visit.

I went for severe reaction to ant? bites. I've experienced this before. Urgent care always Rx cephalexin due to potential cellulitis developing. (my doc says overtreating).

When I finished they took me to an Rx dispensing kiosk. After a virtual with pharmacist, my meds were dispensed out of the machine. This process was new to me. I was expecting to put in my part D information or cc for co-pay.

When I questioned the process, I was told the Rx is included in your visit. I said: if you are going to bill Medicare for the Rx you will not get paid. I was told again the Rx is part of the visit.

We will see...........

Re: How urgent is your Urgent Care?

We have 2 hospitals nearby, the closest is awful for ER care,  waiting times are 5+ hours, people sleeping on gurneys in the hallways, etc. Terrible because they are so understaffed and so many abuse the ER because they do not have a regular doctor and their state provided health care will pay for the ER but not for the office visit. The other is 20 miles away and are terrific but most folks don't think to go there.  The urgent care centers are popping everywhere because of the issue with the ER.

Southern WV; We have one Med Express clinic in town, open 8a-8p, 7 days a week.  It is on one end of town and the hospital is on the other end of town.

I have never been to Med Express.  After hours I would contact my doctor, or go directly to ER.  85% of the time a non emergency visit such as sinusitis, strep, etc., will get you in and out in about 1 1/2 hrs total, unless both doctors are tied up with an MVA, MI, stroke patient, etc.

If my husband needs routine medical care after hours, we go to ER at the VA between 6-7 a.m.   In general, wait time at the VA ER has been much less than our local ER.
