I happened to chance on a story on Sanjay Gupta, CNN show, last night, about the listeria outbreak that killed 30 people. I've heard of it, but not the details. They traced it to one farm that had dispensed with their microbe killing wash. We have many farmers markets around here and I doubt if any of these people are using a special wash. So what can I do at home to ensure I'm not getting a tainted melon? I react very badly to these food scares, contaminated eggs, spinach or peanut butter will keep me from eating that food for 6 months or more. I'm trying to be cool-headed about this or I will miss the entire cantaloupe season.
