Re: How to boost your immunity?

Coming off sugar and cleaning up my diet did me a world of good.

I really don't remember the last time I had a cold (shouldn't say it I know) but it's been probably a decade.  The flu I haven't had in almost 20 years.  I do start to get sick occasionally (tired and maybe some slight congestion or itchy throat) but it never develops into a full blown anything and it's gone in 24-48 hours.

I do drink a bit of OJ with my collagen supplement most days and I take a lot of vitamins so my Vitamin C intake is good too.

Re: How to boost your immunity?

I started getting a flu shot yearly about 10 years ago.

Never had the flu and my colds are very mild, the worse symptoms only last a day or 2.

Plus all of the above posts.

If you feel your immune system is compromised, talk to your physician.

Vitamin C - 1000 mgs., Zinc (preferably drops - more absorbable), and Elderberry syrup. All these can be found on Amazon. You can eat the foods containing these nutrients, but the supplements are more efficient and easier to obtain rather than huge amounts of food to equal the same dose as the supplements. I think we all know hand washing is a given - and sleep.

I might add...

...using a humidifier in your house will help keep your airway and eyes from drying out. Dryness can compromise your ability to fight infection and this may also include dry skin as well as a dry airway and dry eyes.

Humidifiers can help reduce airborne particles which can include airborne pathogens clinging to dust in the air...eeww.

ETA - I spent nearly my entire career working with infectious pathogens and studying how they are transmitted to make us sick.

@Harpa.  Doesn't help to eat oranges all day.  You will only absorb a relatively small amount of vitamin C, and will excrete the excess.

"Oral vitamin C produces tissue and plasma concentrations that the body tightly controls. Approximately 70%–90% of vitamin C is absorbed at moderate intakes of 30–180 mg/day. However, at doses above 1 g/day, absorption falls to less than 50% andabsorbed, unmetabolized ascorbic acid is excreted in the urine [4].Sep 18, 2018"

Regular use of a probiotic is supposed to help boost immunity.

There really isn't enough scientific data to back the efficacy of some probiotics when it comes to treating illnesses. There is too much difference in the strains of bacteria used in these types of supplements to gain valid information about their effectiveness. The FDA has never approved probiotic supplements and it would be wise to discuss taking them with your doctor.

Re: How to boost your immunity?

Of course your diet and lifestyle are very important.... but if you are  talking supplementation, this is what I take for immunity daily

(1) Wellness formula by source Naturals( year round)

(2)Epicore (TM) ( trade mark that many companies offer, just google it)

 (3) Powdered mushroom blend formulated for immunity( I put into my morning coffee and add to smoothies)

(4)  NAD

I have never had the flu in my entire life and haven't had a cold in i don't know how many years.  It's been a long time.

Things that are germy are hand rails, door knobs, elevator buttons, phones, steering  wheels, computer keys, pens and pencils, water facets, grocery store carts and menus.

Every time we touch one of those items anemic other things,  we are picking up a ton of germs.  I am very careful to always use hand wipes when I get into my car when out and about.  I do not want my steering wheel to be covered with germs from my hands.  I wipe off the steering wheel too.

Never eat without washing your hands first, especially in a resturant after viewing the menu.

Be careful where you set your handbag down and never place it on the table where you will be eating...the same for cell phones.

The secret is keeping germs away from your eyes, nose and mouth, so keep your hands away from your face.

I keep sanitizing hand wipes in my hand bag and car.  I never use the gel, just the wipes.

Eat right and get enough sleep...that helps too. I eat a piece of dark chocolate every day... 86% cacao from Ghiradelli.

@Carmie. I have never had the flu and rarely get colds either. I just have a good immune system. I don't do any of the things you listed. My whole family growing up was rarely sick.
