Re: Hot flashes after Menopause??

Yes I have had hot flashes and night sweats for several years now. The summer affects me the most. It seems like hot weather brings them on.  Our home is air conditioned but I also use a fan at night.  My doctor says it will go away eventually but at this point I’m not so sure.

Re: Hot flashes after Menopause??

[ Edited ]

I'm 16 years past menopause and still have hot flashes.  My gyno said it was very normal due to all the hormone changes that continue as we get older.   I swear my body temp never went back down because I'm always hot.

I never took hormones or supplements during peri or menopause.  There are too many warnings about over-the-counter supplements, particularly black cohosh.

Before I retired, I kept cold, wet, paper towels in my desk.  Now I just splash my face a lot.  It's just the way it is.  I lived through it just fine.

Re: Hot flashes after Menopause??

Everyone's experience is unique to them, as are the various remedies women have tried - some successful, some  not.

At age 22, due to an incompetent doctor, I had a complete hysterectory, thereby going into menopause -

After 20 years of dealing with the sweats, I read an article which recommended Vitamin E and Vitamin C to control them.  I started taking those vitamins immediately and sure enough, for me at least, it stopped the hot flashes and I was never bothered again with them.

Re: Hot flashes after Menopause??

I've heard of people in their 80s still having them.

Re: Hot flashes after Menopause??

I consider myself one of the lucky ones, been in meno 18 years and still never had a hot flash, neither did my mother. Other issues, yes, but no hot flashes.

Two things I've heard of are Black Cohosh and Hyland's Menopause.

Hyland's Menopause Description
  • Natural Relief for Menopause Symptoms

Formerly Hyland's #13, Hyland's Menopause is a traditional homeopathic formula for the relief of symptoms of hot flashes, moodiness and irritability from the onset of menopause. Working without contraindications or side effects, Hyland's Menopause stimulates your body's natural healing response to relieve symptoms. Hyland's Menopause can be used in conjunction with other medications.

Directions Adults: Dissolve 2-3 tablets under tongue every 4 hours or as needed.

There are a lot of these types of supplements around to fight meno symptoms, most all of them contain black cohosh. Amberen is another one.  These use plants that produce estrogen like effects .

Re: Hot flashes after Menopause??

@morganjen you are so right about women in their 80s.  I am just a person.  81 in June and still have hot flashes.  My ac bills are quite high.  One Doctor told me some women have them forever another doctor told me cut my dose of Zoloft in half.  Still no relief.  Keep ice packs handy.  Just another thing to hate about getting old.

Re: Hot flashes after Menopause??

I’ve been having hot flashes & night sweats for about 10 years now. My gynecologist suggested I try various natural supplements none of which worked for me. She prescribed HRT which really helped, but due to uterine polyps I had to stop taking it. Now the flashes & night sweats are really bad again. Just toughing it out.

I have 2 older sisters. One never had flashes, the other still has them almost 20 years later but not as frequently. I am hoping mine will become less frequent sooner than later.

Re: Hot flashes after Menopause??

Only been on hormone therapy for 1 year....years and years ago and got off of them.  I don't think they are good for you.  I have been using Andrew Lessman's "Women's Wellness" for about 8 years....love it and no hot flashes.  I love his vitamins.
