The herb Black Cohosh helps. Andrew Lessman has an excellent version on the Southern Channel.

I had horrible hot flashes and night sweats for several years.  My gynnocologist suggested I try eatting a yam a day and amazingly it worked.    It has to be a yam (not sweet potato) and by eatting one a day it nearly eliminated them.  I had a few minor ones but was able to sleep through the night also.  If I skipped a few days I would get full on flashes.  I just brought a yam to work every day and had a baked yame for lunch.

Oh please don't be looking for a pill to take. Just get yourself to eating healthy and exercise daily. That helped me immensely!

Daily vigorous exercise, a healthy daily diet, and Remifemin supplement (that specific brand recommended by my doctor) has worked wonders for my body.

I am over that stage in my life, amen; however, there are products at the drugstore that can help you out but off hand I don't know the names.  I do remember one called Estroven.   I was on Estrogen after my hysterectomy and I felt like a new person.  I could not take the Estrogen & Progesterin together as the Progesterin did not agree with me but that is your best bet if you are not in a high category for cancer.  It's a tough stage in your life and I always wonder why women have to go through so much.  Cat Very Happy

Once a lady has a hyster she doesn't need the progesterone , just the estrogen. No doctor should be giving a post hyster patioent progesterone.

I find exercise a big help. Also when I limit sugar I have fewer hot flashes. The earlier I eat dinner the fewer I have in the middle of the night. It may have something to do with having no food to digest in the middle of the night. However, exercise makes the biggest difference...oh and limiting caffeine. Good luck!

@MercysMom

At 72 I no longer have to deal with hot flashes and night sweats.  When I did, my doctor had me on hormone replacement therapy for a short time and then switched me to an OTC at Walmart:  Remifemin.  The black cohosh ingredient is at a consistent level ( manufactured to German medicine standards ).

As for the night sweats, I used a gel-filled device that I placed under my back.  It consisted of several two-foot long tubes.  As you " liquefied " the one side, you could turn it over and use that side.  It worked so well that I left one at the shore house as well.  Now that I don't need them, one is being used by my jeweler and one by my pedicurist.

The tube pad was bought QVC many years ago and is no longer carried by them.  Search gel- filled devices to see what is now available.

I've never noticed if any of those things make a difference for me. I exercise regularly and do not eat sugars or grains, limit caffeine, too. I suppose those things might make mine better (did not do any of it in hopes it would help With hot flashes, etc. but for other reasons) but it is still way too bad to just live with it.

My hot flashes are worst during the day and I'd have a hard time w/o the Smoky Mountain Naturals products I use.
