I am 69 and was still having hot flashes, mild ones but none the less - still having them. I read an article my doctor gave me about them - it said almost every food we buy at the grocery store contains some sort of plant estrogen - mainly soy products . These plant estrogens are absorbed into our body and metabolised very slowly thus our body reacts to them the same as it does to regular estrogen and the only way to get rid of the hot flashes is to get rid of the estrogen. You can try to not consume any estrogen but in todays world where almost all meats contain hormones and there are so many plant estrogens in everything that is extremely difficult to do. My doctor recommended a supplement called DIm (available on Amazon). It is made from extracts from vegetables and it helps the body to metabolise this plant estrogen and get it out of the body which stops your hot flashes. I agreed to try it for 90 days. It took a couple months to noticibly start to work, but it has been very effective for me. Not 100% but I'd say 90% of my hot flashes are gone. It isn't expensive - it isn't harmful. The bottle says take 2 a day but I only take one a day now. The only problem is it's hard to get down because it is a large capsule.

@151949. Now I’m really confused. I take Premarin a few times a week to help w/ symptoms. It’s estrogen, right?

My doctor did warn me when I had my hysterectomy at 37 years old , that I would most likely have a difficult menopause, and I did. He said those who have hysterectomies before menopause age generally do have difficult menopause, and the younger you are the worse it may be. well, he was correct.

@Shanus Yeah, wait til you stop taking that premarin. That is keeping your body fooled into not knowing you went thru meno. The estrogen in foods is much lower dose.

15 years and counting. They aren’t nearly as frequent now, but stress can bring them on. I still get night sweats too. They started with migraines, the flashes were like 5 times a day at the worst. I went on bioidentical hormones a few yesrs, that greatly helped flashes and headaches.  After a hysterectomy at age 58 I was advised to stop the hormones.

Now age 67, still on the temperature rollercoaster when I’m under stress. I take a natural stress relief that contains Theonine, it helps.

@151949  I did have a hysterectomy at 40 & started taking Premarin then. 15 yrs. ago I had a double mastectomy (benign, but dense breasts that could no longer provide clear mammograms ) & reconstruction. Without the risk of breast cancer or uteran cancer, my doc feels it’s safe to continue this low dose several times a week indefinitely. I guess I kind of lucked out.

My eldest sister never had many hot flashes. My middle sister who is almost 70 still has them. Mine started about 10 years ago in my mid 40s. I was having at least 10 a day and was miserable. My doctor tried all kinds of OTC supplements but none helped. Finally, went on HRT which helped tremendously. I was on the higher dose for a few years and then tried to stop due to health risks. Oh, my! They came back worse than before so my doc put me on the lowest dose. I am having a few flashes a week now. Doc says I can stay on lower dose for a few years, but she wants me off HRT before I hit 60. I am not looking forward to that day.

Mine started in my late 30's. My doctor kept trying to get me to take some pill so I would have my periods. LOL!!! I told her if they wanted to stop that was fine by me. She said I was not old enough for Menopause. I took her pills once & after that told her I was not taking them. My period was so few & far between. Finally reached that 1 yr without.

At first I thought it was from being Hypothyroid until I started acting like a lunatic with all the symptoms. I thought I was going to go crazy. Hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, emotional, just a total B$%^&.

Now I'm 60 & don't really notice them. I notice more mood swings, being angry & don't care attitude. I'm not the same person I was before Menopause. I want the old me back but guess that's not going to happen.

Started meno when I was 45-ish and took hormones to relieve the very minor symptoms---stupid me!!!  Got rid of all that by 50, but at 59, was dx with breast cancer prob due to the hormones-----went thru chem, surgery, rads  and now on tamox but strangely, don't have any hot flashes at all. I do get the chills but not often. All that was in 2012. Yes we women sure go thru alot------always something!!

My hot flashes began 25 years ago at age 40 as a result of chemotherapy-induced menopause.  (Chronic Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma)

I think they continued about 15+ years.  I had some increases during the subsequent chemo and biological treatments for the lymphoma but, gradually they lessened.

Three years ago when I began treatment (ongoing) for metastatic breast cancer, (Ibrance and Letrozole) the hot flashes and sweating - day and night - increased drastically.  I didn’t think I had that much estrogen left to block!  Who knew you could sweat even behind your ears?!!

(My oncologist had me try Effexor to alleviate the hot flashes but, I was not able to take it as it gave me extremely bad headaches)

@Coquille Wishing you coolness and good health.

@trenet So sorry you've been dealing with so much, nonetheless hot flashes. Who said, "It's Lovely To Be A Woman"!  I too tried Effexor with the same results, migraines. It did alleviate the flashes but not worth it. You to stay Cooooooool and of course wishing you health from now on!🌬🌬🌬🌬

What do you plan to do to keep from getting blood clots or pulmonary or heart disease.
