I'm 62 years old and got my flu vaccine today at Kroger.  The pharmacist told me he was giving me the high dose vaccine.  I asked him if that is what they gave everyone, and they said it was based on age.  I asked if this was because I was 62 years old, and he said it was.

I'm almost positive that last year when I got it at CVS they told me the high dose vaccine wasn't given until you were 65. I Googled it and found something that said it was for age 65 and over.  What age have you all been given the high dose vaccine?

I got my high-dose flu shot at my medical provider today. 65 was te age they mentioned. I don't think it would hurt you if you are younger. Just a date chosen by the medical providers. I am not charged for it so I don't know if it is more expensive.

The high-dose comes in the trivalent version only which means it will not give you protection against both strains of Flu-B. I'm 63 and my pharmacist told me standard procedure is to give the quadrivalent (pprotects you from both strains of flu B) for people my age.

@SilleeMee  Maybe I misunderstood what he meant then.  He said he was giving me the vaccine that protects against four strains of flu because of my age.  He said the other flu vaccine only protected against three.  Was I given the high dose?

Edited to say:  At least that's what I think he was saying. I'm confused after reading what your link says.

Thank you @SilleeMee.  I just went into my prescription history at Kroger, and it says I was given the quad.  I just misunderstood which was which.

the pharmacy where i get my shots told us (dh and myself) depending on ages, high dose can be given between 60-65 yrs old.

dh and I have been given high dose for several years since we are way past the 65 yrs old.

@NickNack  Do you have health issues? Your pharmacist would know. I also have taken the high dose flu vaccine forever because of health issues. I'm now 70, but my PCP had me begin it long before I was in my 60's. I simply call it the "Super Duper vaccine" when calling in for an appointment - they know what I need! Confident your pharmacist knows what he is doing. It's for your own protection. Nothing about age, really.

My dr. told me not to get the high dose one. I'm 63.

I had my super flu shot a week ago. It was a totally nothing shot. Didn't hurt at all.
