Re: Hidden Sugars in Processed Foods...

@Duckncover   I noticed your concern regarding salt.  My family does not eat salt.  The only substitute that is palatable/healthy for us is Table Tasty...it is made with herbs and it really tastes like salt.  Unfortunately, the price they charge you would think you were consuming gold.  We buy it on Amazon...wish there was a competitor, unfortunately we haven't found any.  Just thought I'd mention if you are interested.

Goodness, I eat fruit every day.  My blood numbers and weight are just fine.

Guess we all have different metabolisms.

@4kitties , as a Type 1 diabetic, I have extensively researched the metabolic impact of refined sugar in the diet. Fructose/fiber burns slower than white sugar and flour, having far less impact on blood sugar. Eaten in moderation fruit can be a valuable source of vitamins and fiber. The interesting part of keto diets, is that even protein foods are converted to sugar with the absence of carbohydrates. Scientific fact.

Re: Hidden Sugars in Processed Foods...

I always thought that, probably, the best choices of 'fruits' are berries and melons.   I eat some other fruits as well but, like with most things, I keep it down to a reasonable amount.  I'm not diabetic or anything else like that, so I can indulge.

I just always make sure that when I consume anything acidic, which would include fruits, other sugars, soft drinks, tea, chocolate, etc, I am sure to follow it with plenty of water.  Often, I also make a point of eating my sugars/acidics with some protein.  So far, so good, and I'm not gaining weight.  I would really miss my sweets if I had to go cold turkey so I make sure my portions are small and, like I  said, with the water and protein.

Part of the water bit of that is to dilute the sugars out of my teeth/gums, too.  I once told them at the dentist's office what I was doing in that regard and they said it was a good idea, so I was glad to know I was on the right track.
