I just got back from seeing my favorite doctor at Urgent Care simply because my gastroenterologist is so booked up.  I've had gastritis in the past but it's back again.  While I wait for my gastro appointment on the 11th, my Urgent Care doc told me to stay on the 20 mg omeprazole and add Pepcid.  Also had me add Mylanta which gives pretty quick relief to the chest pressure/heartburn feeling.  Told me in no uncertain terms NO coffee, NO alcohol, NO citrus, NO chocolate,  NO carbonated drinks, NO friend foods..  He said those were the enemies!  And stick to a bland diet.  Just to rule out any gallbladder issue, I'm having an ultrasound this week.  I'm so happy I got in to see him today because the worry and discomfort was driving me insane.  Seeing this thread was a Godsend, too.  Hoping everyone feels great soon!!

For myself the artificial sweetners in Mio water enhancers are irritating and I cannot drink them @Lali1 .

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I don't have heartburn all the time. Some things give it to me and I'm still not sure what. I would take the pills if I had it all the time.

The next time you get it, drink a glass of tomoto juice (not V8).  It really works.  You don't want the PPI pills.  It doesn't fix anything.  They shut down a natural occurance.  Most likely a lack of hydrochloric acid is the problem........not always too much acid.  @Lali1   It is worth a try!

some of the water enhancers may have artificial citrus flavors that can be stronger; same for bottled tea; it may have extra or artificial citrus flavoring. check the labels. I have had the same issues with anything citrus. I put a 1/4 lemon in my iced tea, but that's all I can handle. I love my Tums Smoothies.

I get heartburn from drinking just plain water sometimes!  Crazy.

@SilleeMee

I have had GERD, hiatal hernia and a Schatzki's ring for years.  Last time I checked with my GI doc, he said my stomach is in my chest.  I keep taking the Prilosec, sometimes two per day.  I take lotsa steroids, antiepileptics and a maintenance antibiotic which are not helping my indigestion one bit.

I have an AI disease, scleroderma, and that comes with GERD but mine isn't bad enough for me to be taking anything for it right now. The disease is progressive so things can change at any time unfortunately.  I just take a Tums whenever I feel the need and that works. The other day I ate some food with jalapenos in it and I thought I was gonna die...never again!Smiley Tongue

I have a big wedge-shaped foam which goes under my pillow. I only use it on occasion and it seems to help.
