I take Nexium every day but on occasion I still get heartburn and it might take days for it to calm down. Watching my diet is a must but then one thing can go wrong in the day etc. and it sets it off. I have been diagnosed with GERD many years ago and try to keep in under control.... Does not always work. There are times when I feel lousy that I get anxiety and everything gets worse. Let me know if anyone else can share how they feel...

Nexium is a Proton pump inhibitors (PPI) and Zantac is an H2 blocker, you might need a second med when the Gerd flares up
I take prevacid and it works great for my asthma induced GerD

is the Nexium you take OTC? can you see a doctor? Just asking because i took Protonix, another PPI, for GERD at one time but studies have found that it isn't good to take these medications for years. my suggestion is to see your doctor as you said you were diagnosed with GERD many years ago - something may have changed and because heartburn lasting for days may be a symptom of other issues.

Its time for you to see your doctor or GI specialist and they will probably want to do an upper GI endoscope to evaluate what is going on. I too have been diagnosed with GERD and have been on Nexium for years. I can get away with taking a pill every other day. My issues isn't so much acid reflux but my esophagus get irritated making it difficult to swallow. I too had concerns about long term use of a proton pump inhibitor but my GI specialist said it was what I needed to do to keep my condition under control

Thanks for your input. I have managed my heartburn most of the time but been dealing with anxiety being a divorced woman and trying to take care of to many things. Need to take a few deep breaths and start walking again.... Maybe I need a good old fashioned cry...
Hugs...

Whenever my symptoms can't be managed by the medications I am currently taking, I go to the doctor to work on a new plan of action. This is true for all my medical conditions. It may mean new medications or new tests or both, but that's always the first step - see the doctor to formulate a new plan.
